The Gateway 14.1" is a budget-friendly option with basic performance suitable for general use, while the HP Spectre x360 is more expensive but offers higher performance for engineering tasks, 3D rendering, machine learning, and gaming. The HP has more storage space, memory, and a better processor, but it's also slightly heavier which impacts portability. Its touchscreen and higher screen resolution are advantages for multimedia and productivity tasks. If long battery life and a lightweight device are crucial for you and your tasks are not intensive, you may lean towards the Gateway. However, if improved performance, a high-resolution touchscreen, and more storage are your priorities and you're okay with less portability and a higher cost, the HP Spectre x360 could serve you better. The HP Spectre x360 is very good for general use, while the Gateway 14.1" is poor.
The HP Spectre x360 outperforms the Gateway 14.1" mainly due to its superior CPU, extra RAM for multitasking, higher-resolution touchscreen display, and a longer battery life, all of which contribute to enhanced general usage experience, along with a 2-in-1 design that adds versatility. In contrast, the Gateway 14.1" offers lower performance with a basic CPU and minimal RAM, a less impressive screen, and yields a shorter period of operation on a single charge, which reflects its limitations for general purposes.

The HP Spectre x360 is very good for engineering and design, while the Gateway 14.1" is poor.
The Gateway 14.1" falls short for engineering and design primarily due to its basic Intel Celeron processor, 4GB of RAM, and limited Intel UHD Graphics, which struggle with demanding software used in these fields, whereas the HP Spectre x360 excels with a robust Intel i7 processor, ample 16GB of RAM, and superior integrated Iris Xe graphics that can handle intensive tasks and display better image quality through its high-resolution screen. Additionally, while both laptops have decent portability, the HP's higher resolution and larger screen size offer more clarity and detail for design work, despite it being slightly heavier and less portable than the lightweight Gateway.

The HP Spectre x360 has a better screen than the Gateway 14.1" for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, content creation, and software development.
For general use, the HP Spectre x360 offers a high-resolution display that delivers sharp images and vibrant colors due to its panel quality and brightness, making for a comfortable and pleasing visual experience. In engineering and design tasks, the Spectre's wider color gamuts ensure that it can display a broader range of colors with accuracy, which is critical for precise work where color representation matters. However, for gaming and 3D applications, while the resolution and panel type of both laptops are adequate, the lack of a high refresh rate means neither is ideal for fast-paced visuals or professional-grade 3D work, where fluid motion and quick screen updates are essential.

"The Gateway Ultra Slim 14" is surprisingly quiet with long battery life. The inexpensive Gateway excels at maximizing performance per dollar with lots of RAM and storage, super-quiet fan, and a long battery life. It can even house up to two M.2 SSDs which we weren't expecting from such a cheap system. However, the iffy reliability of the keyboard and USB-C port on our test unit means users should double-check for these potential issues immediately after purchasing."
"As we said, Lenovo's Yoga 9i is a tough competitor to the Spectre with an equally admirable OLED display. We're sad that neither of them has an HDMI port nor a niche or slot to hold the stylus, though the HP wins points for its bundled mini docking station and magnetically attached pen. Your choice will come down to screen shape—and in our eyes, just as seeing an OLED screen spoils you for an IPS panel, enjoying a tall 3:2 display spoils you for a more conventional view. The HP Spectre x360 13.5 is our new favorite 2-in-1."
