If budget is a major concern and you're looking for the more affordable option, the Gateway 14.1" laptop is typically less expensive and includes an IPS display with a higher resolution, which means better color and viewing angles compared to the Lenovo IdeaPad 1 14"'s TN panel with a lower resolution. However, the Lenovo IdeaPad 1 14" runs Windows 11 Home, potentially offering a more current operating system experience compared to the Gateway's Windows 10S. Both laptops use the same processor and have similar battery life, so performance for everyday tasks should be comparable, but for tasks like watching videos or working with images, the Gateway's display might provide a more enjoyable experience. Keep in mind, the Lenovo IdeaPad might offer a smaller footprint and lighter weight, which could make a difference if portability is a key factor for you. Give Feedback

The Gateway 14.1" has a better screen than the Lenovo IdeaPad 1 14" for general use, gaming and AI, and engineering and design, while the Lenovo IdeaPad 1 14" has a better screen for content creation, and software development.
For general use, the Gateway’s screen likely offers acceptable clarity, color, and brightness, which are less prominent on the Lenovo IdeaPad, making visual tasks less sharp and vivid. Engineering and design work require precise color representation and a wider color range, which the Gateway moderately supports, while the Lenovo falls short in delivering the necessary color accuracy and spectrum. When it comes to 3D and gaming, a high refresh rate is crucial to reduce motion blur and improve fluidity; the Gateway does not excel but is tolerable, whereas the Lenovo's lower refresh rate leads to less smooth visuals during fast-paced scenes.

Although they have very similar scores, PerfectRec considers Lenovo IdeaPad 1 14" to be only fair for general use, while the Gateway 14.1" is poor.
The Gateway 14.1" laptop has very limited RAM and an Intel Celeron processor, which are major drawbacks for performance in general use, coupled with a poor battery life which affects its portability, despite having an adequate IPS screen with higher resolution. The Lenovo IdeaPad 1 14", while slightly more portable due to better battery life, also suffers from performance issues with identical RAM and CPU limitations, and the lower-quality TN display provides inferior screen quality for general tasks.

The Lenovo IdeaPad 1 14" and Gateway 14.1" are both poor for gaming and AI.
The Gateway 14.1" and Lenovo IdeaPad 1 14" are poor choices for gaming and 3D applications because both use the same basic GPU, the Intel UHD Graphics 600, which lacks the power for demanding graphics tasks, and both have a screen refresh rate of 60Hz, which is not ideal for smooth gaming visuals. Additionally, while factors like CPU performance and screen quality are also important for a good gaming experience, both laptops share a low-powered Intel Celeron N4020 processor and neither has a high-quality display, contributing further to their unsuitability for gaming and 3D needs.

How the Gateway 14.1" and the Lenovo IdeaPad 1 14" compare to other laptops
"The Gateway Ultra Slim 14" is surprisingly quiet with long battery life. The inexpensive Gateway excels at maximizing performance per dollar with lots of RAM and storage, super-quiet fan, and a long battery life. It can even house up to two M.2 SSDs which we weren't expecting from such a cheap system. However, the iffy reliability of the keyboard and USB-C port on our test unit means users should double-check for these potential issues immediately after purchasing."
"The IdeaPad 1 14 is a simple machine, but it’s well-designed and has nearly everything you’d expect from a no-nonsense laptop that allows you to check emails and get schoolwork or other light tasks done with relative ease. A "true" 128GB SSD (as opposed to an eMMC drive) and a roomy 14-inch full HD display are arguably the star attractions, with the comfortable keyboard and reasonably modern styling playing important backup roles."
