The ASUS ROG Strix G17 offers better performance for intensive tasks such as 3D rendering, machine learning, or engineering, with a more powerful processor and graphics card, more storage, and a larger, higher resolution screen that refreshes faster. On the flip side, it comes with a heftier price tag, is larger, and weighs more, which affects its portability. The Gateway 14.1" is more budget-friendly, highly portable due to its lower weight, and sufficient for general use like browsing and document editing, but it doesn't match the ASUS in terms of performance for demanding applications or gaming. The ASUS ROG Strix G17 is good for general use, while the Gateway 14.1" is poor.
The ASUS ROG Strix G17 is better suited for general use due to its powerful CPU, abundant RAM, high-resolution screen, and strong build quality despite being less portable and having shorter battery life, whereas the Gateway 14.1" falls short with a much weaker processor, less RAM, lower screen quality and is less suitable for various tasks although it is lighter and potentially has longer battery life.

The ASUS ROG Strix G17 is very good for engineering and design, while the Gateway 14.1" is poor.
The ASUS ROG Strix G17 excels in engineering and design due to its superior processor, high-quality graphics card, ample RAM, and a better display, which are very important for such tasks, while suffering in portability and having a louder operating noise. In contrast, the Gateway 14.1" falls short with a weaker processor, basic graphics, less RAM, and a lower quality display, even though it is more portable and operates quieter, making it less suitable for demanding engineering and design work.

The ASUS ROG Strix G17 has a better screen than the Gateway 14.1" for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, software development, and content creation.
When considering screen quality for general use, the ASUS ROG Strix G17 likely offers a high resolution and brightness, along with a panel type that delivers crisp and vibrant visuals. For engineering and design tasks, this laptop probably has excellent color accuracy, covering a wide range of color gamuts that ensures precise color representation which is crucial for detailed work. However, for gaming and 3D applications, despite its good resolution and panel type, the ASUS may fall short due to a lower refresh rate, leading to less smooth visuals in fast-paced scenarios compared to other gaming-optimized screens.

"The Asus ROG Strix G17 is an attractive but unbalanced gaming laptop. Its potent AMD Ryzen 9 processor excels in 1080p gaming, but playing at 1440p leaves the middling GeForce RTX 4060 GPU shouldering most of the burden. The display is exceptionally colorful, which is handy for content creators, but since this is a gaming laptop it would be better served with improved HDR capabilities. If battery life isn't a priority, the Strix G17 could serve as a designer by day and a gamer by night."
"The Gateway Ultra Slim 14" is surprisingly quiet with long battery life. The inexpensive Gateway excels at maximizing performance per dollar with lots of RAM and storage, super-quiet fan, and a long battery life. It can even house up to two M.2 SSDs which we weren't expecting from such a cheap system. However, the iffy reliability of the keyboard and USB-C port on our test unit means users should double-check for these potential issues immediately after purchasing."
