When deciding between the Dell G15 5520 and the Framework Laptop 16, consider that the Dell may offer a more wallet-friendly option with robust performance suited for gaming or demanding applications, but can be heavier and bulkier, leading to less portability. The Framework, on the other hand, is designed for easy upgrades and repairs, boasts a higher build quality, and is more portable, but comes at a higher cost. If customization and future-proofing are priorities and you're okay with a higher investment, the Framework could serve you well, while the Dell is suited for budget-conscious users needing strong performance out of the box. How the Dell G15 5520 and the Framework Laptop 16 (2023) compare to other laptops
Olivier Martin, Ryan Lim, and John Peroramas | April 2023
"The Dell G15 (2022) is a 15.6-inch budget gaming laptop, and is great for gaming. You can configure the laptop with powerful Intel 12th Gen. CPUs and various NVIDIA dedicated GPUs, all of which deliver a smooth gaming experience at 1080p. There's also a QHD 240Hz display option if you want better visuals, though you'll have to pair it with the top-end NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti to get good frame rates. It doesn't get overly hot or loud under load, and there's no noticeable throttling on the CPU or GPU. Unfortunately, the 120Hz panel has a slow response time, causing noticeable ghosting, and it doesn't support variable refresh rate."
"The trend towards thinner and lighter laptops is made possible by fusing more and more components onto the mainboard. The main drawback to this approach is that it limits repairability as even a small fault may require replacing entire boards. Framework is one of the only manufacturers looking the other way in an attempt to improve end-user customization and servicing. There's no question that the Laptop 16 is more user-friendly to service than any alternative, but this lucrative feature comes at the cost of size and weight as individual components must be easily replaceable."
