The Dell G15 5520 offers good performance for general use, 3D/machine learning tasks, and gaming, with features like a high refresh rate display and dedicated graphics card, making it suitable for intensive applications but with a lower battery life and heavier design. Conversely, the Dell XPS 13 is more portable and offers a higher battery life, making it better for general productivity and travel, with a higher resolution and aspect ratio for better screen real estate, but it lacks the dedicated graphics and refresh rate for high-end gaming or intensive 3D work. The Dell G15 5520 is good for gaming and AI, while the Dell XPS 13 is only fair.
The Dell G15 5520 offers a dedicated GPU and a high screen refresh rate, which are crucial for smooth gaming and 3D performance, whereas the Dell XPS 13, while having a quality screen and decent CPU, lacks the specialized graphics power and lower refresh rate, making it less suited for these tasks.

The Dell G15 5520 is very good for engineering and design, while the Dell XPS 13 is good.
The Dell G15 5520 outshines the Dell XPS 13 for engineering and design use due to its powerful Intel i7-12700H CPU, superior Nvidia RTX 3060 GPU, and a higher screen refresh rate which benefits graphic-intensive tasks, albeit with a tradeoff in weight and size affecting portability. Meanwhile, the Dell XPS 13, while still good for engineering with its efficient Intel i7-1250U CPU and integrated Iris Xe GPU, offers a balance between performance and portability with a lighter build and high-quality display, making it suitable for on-the-go professionals.

The Dell G15 5520 has a better screen than the Dell XPS 13 for gaming and AI, and content creation, while the Dell XPS 13 has a better screen for general use, and engineering and design.
For general use, both the Dell G15 5520 and the Dell XPS 13 offer high-resolution displays with wide viewing angles and sufficient brightness, ensuring clear and vibrant visuals for everyday tasks like browsing the web and watching videos. In engineering and design, these laptops provide displays with broad color coverage, allowing precise color work in applications that demand accurate color reproduction, like photo editing and CAD software. However, for gaming and 3D applications, their screens fall short due to lower refresh rates, which means less fluid motion and potential screen tearing during fast-paced scenes or while working on rapid 3D rendering tasks.

How the Dell G15 5520 and the Dell XPS 13 compare to other laptops
Olivier Martin, Ryan Lim, and John Peroramas | April 2023
"The Dell G15 (2022) is a 15.6-inch budget gaming laptop, and is great for gaming. You can configure the laptop with powerful Intel 12th Gen. CPUs and various NVIDIA dedicated GPUs, all of which deliver a smooth gaming experience at 1080p. There's also a QHD 240Hz display option if you want better visuals, though you'll have to pair it with the top-end NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti to get good frame rates. It doesn't get overly hot or loud under load, and there's no noticeable throttling on the CPU or GPU. Unfortunately, the 120Hz panel has a slow response time, causing noticeable ghosting, and it doesn't support variable refresh rate."
"In the past, the XPS 13 was a hands-down contender for the best laptop on the market. But the Apple-silicon MacBook has since barrelled onto the scene, and it wipes the floor with most of the ultraportable Windows laptops that cross my desk on a daily basis. This XPS is no exception. Compared to the M2 MacBook Air, battery life is worse."
