If you primarily use your computer for general tasks and prefer something more budget-friendly, the Acer Aspire 5 could be the right choice. It offers better portability due to its lower weight and is more suited for everyday tasks with decent battery life. However, if you're interested in gaming or tasks that require more graphical power, such as 3D rendering or video editing, the ASUS TUF Gaming F17, while more expensive, includes a dedicated graphics card and a larger, higher-refresh-rate screen, though it is heavier and may have shorter battery life due to its higher performance components. For general use, the Acer Aspire 5's screen offers a balance of resolution and brightness, making it suitable for everyday tasks, but the ASUS TUF Gaming F17 edges ahead with a higher quality display that provides better visual clarity and vividness. When it comes to engineering and design work, the Acer Aspire 5 may not meet the color accuracy needs professionals seek, whereas the ASUS may offer a fair range but still fall short compared to specialized displays with wider color gamuts. While both laptops might not impress in gaming and 3D tasks due to their lower refresh rates, the ASUS might provide a slightly more immersive experience due to its better overall screen quality.

The Acer Aspire 5 15 and ASUS TUF Gaming F17 are both good for general use.
The Acer Aspire 5 15 is preferred for general use due to its balance of performance with a suitable CPU and plenty of RAM, alongside better portability and longer battery life, whereas the ASUS TUF Gaming F17, though having a capable CPU, has less RAM, and its larger screen size combined with higher weight makes it less portable with shorter battery life, positioning it more as a gaming-oriented machine than one for everyday tasks. Screen quality on both laptops is comparable with IPS panels, but the added weight and lower battery performance of the ASUS compromise its suitability for users who prioritize mobility and all-day battery over the gaming capabilities that its dedicated GPU provides.

How the Acer Aspire 5 15 and the ASUS TUF Gaming F17 compare to other laptops
"The Acer Aspire 5 15 is a good value office laptop with reasonable battery life. The combination of slim exterior, relatively low weight (approx. 1.7 kg) and 8 hour real-life battery runtime makes the Acer Aspire a truly mobile laptop. The modest Tiger Lake processor supports this area and simultaneously ensures an affordable price point. The Aspire produces little noise and stays cool. The screen (FHD, IPS) might not win any prizes but is entirely appropriate for the price."
"One of the Asus TUF Gaming F17’s highlights is without a doubt its excellent gaming performance. The fact that Asus configured the RTX 3060 GPU for its specified maximum of 140 W is became immediately noticeable in our benchmarks. For a 17-inch notebook the F17 also offers a very long battery life, which makes it somewhat portable. On the flip side is the display. It may be saved by its good overall contrast ratio, but its overall brightness is simply too low, and its response times are too slow for a gaming device. The F17’s successor needs to improve upon this."
