The HP Envy 17 offers a balance of performance and portability with its 17.3-inch screen and lower midrange price, making it suitable for general use and light engineering tasks. Its Iris Xe graphics are adequate for casual gaming and basic 3D work, and the touchscreen enhances user interaction. With a good battery life and a backlit keyboard, it's a solid choice for everyday productivity and entertainment on the go. On the other hand, the Lenovo Legion Pro 5i (2024) is designed with a focus on performance, particularly for gaming and intensive tasks like 3D rendering and machine learning, thanks to its powerful Nvidia RTX 4070 GPU and Intel i7-14700HX processor. The 16-inch display with a higher resolution and refresh rate provides a superior visual experience, especially for fast-paced content. However, it's priced higher, has a shorter battery life, and is less portable due to its weight and size. It also lacks a touchscreen and has a more traditional gaming laptop appearance, which may not be ideal for professional settings. In summary, if you prioritize portability, a touchscreen, and a balance of performance for everyday tasks within a lower midrange budget, the HP Envy 17 is the way to go. If, however, you're looking for a powerhouse that can handle demanding games and applications with a premium display, and you're willing to compromise on battery life and portability, the Lenovo Legion Pro 5i (2024) would be the better choice. NotebookCheck

Marcus Schwarten | April 2023
"In our test, the HP Envy 17-cr0079ng presents itself as a balanced multimedia laptop. Thanks to its solid CPU performance and dedicated entry-level GeForce, it can also be used for playing video games, as long as the demands aren't too high. Those looking for more can find it in the Dell XPS 17 for example."

PCMag

Brian Westover | August 2023
"The midpriced Lenovo Legion Pro 5i Gen 8 follows some of our favorite gaming machines, including last year's model and the higher-end Legion Pro 7i Gen 8 tested earlier this year. But pedigree doesn't count for much in the computer world, and gaming laptops require a certain level of power and graphics performance to justify their prices. The Pro 5i Gen 8 just doesn't do that, offering middling CPU and GPU performance rather than the sort of muscle that would make it a great value."
