If price is a major concern and you require a laptop for basic tasks such as web browsing, document editing, and media consumption, the Gateway 14.1" may suit your needs while keeping costs low. On the other hand, the HP Pavilion 15, while more expensive, typically offers better performance, which can be important for more demanding tasks like video editing, gaming, or running complex software. It also has a larger screen, potentially offering a better viewing experience at the expense of increased size and weight, affecting portability. Keep in mind that investing in the HP Pavilion 15 may lead to a more future-proof experience, with potentially better build quality and improved functionality over time. Give Feedback

The HP Pavilion 15 is good for general use, while the Gateway 14.1" is poor.
The Gateway 14.1" has a less powerful Intel Celeron processor, only 4GB of RAM, and a lower-quality keyboard, which makes multitasking and productivity challenging for general use; its high portability and very good heat management are overshadowed by these performance limitations. In contrast, the HP Pavilion 15 is better equipped with a more capable Intel i3 processor, 16GB of RAM, and a higher-quality keyboard, ensuring smoother operation and better multitasking, despite its slightly less portable design and good but not excellent heat management.

The HP Pavilion 15 is only fair for gaming and AI, while the Gateway 14.1" is poor.
The Gateway 14.1" is equipped with an Intel Celeron processor and basic Intel UHD Graphics 600, which are not optimal for gaming and 3D applications, and its IPS screen, while providing better viewing angles and color reproduction than TN panels, has a standard refresh rate which isn't ideal for fast-paced games.

The HP Pavilion 15 is only fair for engineering and design, while the Gateway 14.1" is poor.
The Gateway 14.1" falls short for engineering and design tasks due to its lower-tier Intel Celeron processor and minimal RAM, which hinder performance for demanding applications, while its screen, though of high resolution, offers a poor range of colors. On the other hand, the HP Pavilion 15 provides a fair experience with its better Intel i3 processor and increased RAM that can handle more complex tasks, and despite its lower screen resolution compared to the Gateway, it displays a wider color gamut, making it more suitable for design work.

The Gateway 14.1" has a better screen than the HP Pavilion 15 for general use, gaming and AI, and engineering and design, while the HP Pavilion 15 has a better screen for content creation, and software development.
If you prioritize a clearer and brighter display for everyday tasks like browsing and document editing, the Gateway's better resolution and panel type could serve you well, despite not being top-tier. For engineering and design work, where color accuracy is crucial, neither laptop has the strong color coverage you would need for the most professional output. Lastly, if gaming is your focus, the Gateway will also fall short due to a lackluster refresh rate, and both laptops won't provide the smooth visuals that high-frame-rate gaming demands.

How the Gateway 14.1" and the HP Pavilion 15 compare to other laptops
"The Gateway Ultra Slim 14" is surprisingly quiet with long battery life. The inexpensive Gateway excels at maximizing performance per dollar with lots of RAM and storage, super-quiet fan, and a long battery life. It can even house up to two M.2 SSDs which we weren't expecting from such a cheap system. However, the iffy reliability of the keyboard and USB-C port on our test unit means users should double-check for these potential issues immediately after purchasing."
"The HP Pavilion 15 carries a fair amount of power and a sharp display in its handsome slimline shell. It's not perfect, but it's a hard worker. This is wonderfully designed and totes a heck of a lot of desktop power, with the added benefit of a decent webcam and a full-sized keyboard. If you're getting down to business on a budget, it's a great fit."
