The Gateway 14.1" is a more budget-friendly option with decent battery life, and it's lighter, making it easier to carry around. However, its performance is more suited for basic tasks, and it isn't ideal for intensive jobs due to its less powerful processor, lower RAM, and limited storage. On the other hand, the HP Envy x360 15" offers better performance with a more powerful processor, more RAM, and greater storage, which is advantageous for heavier workloads and multitasking. It also has a higher-quality screen with touch capability, making it more versatile, but it's heavier and less portable. If you need better performance and can handle a slightly larger and heavier laptop, the HP Envy x360 15" would be a more suitable choice, particularly for engineering or more demanding applications. The HP Envy x360 15" has a better screen than the Gateway 14.1" for general use, engineering and design, content creation, and software development.
For general use, both the Gateway 14.1" and HP Envy x360 15" provide adequate display performance due to their resolutions and brightness levels, but don't expect exceptionally vibrant or sharp visuals. When it comes to engineering and design work, these laptops offer screens that can handle a range of colors, but professionals might find them lacking in coverage of wide color gamuts like DCI-P3 and Adobe RGB. As for gaming and 3D applications, the lower refresh rates on these models can result in less fluid motion, making them less suitable for fast-paced visuals despite reasonable resolution and panel quality.

How the Gateway 14.1" and the HP Envy x360 15" compare to other laptops
"The Gateway Ultra Slim 14" is surprisingly quiet with long battery life. The inexpensive Gateway excels at maximizing performance per dollar with lots of RAM and storage, super-quiet fan, and a long battery life. It can even house up to two M.2 SSDs which we weren't expecting from such a cheap system. However, the iffy reliability of the keyboard and USB-C port on our test unit means users should double-check for these potential issues immediately after purchasing."
"Despite its good looks, stellar webcam and comfortable keyboard, the Envy x360 15 is hard to recommend because of its dim, 16:9 display. If the display isn't an issue for you, just be sure to wait for a good sale price. Otherwise, a more modern two-in-one with a 16:10 display such as the Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 or Lenovo Yoga 7i 16 provides a larger workspace without adding much to the size and weight of the system."
