The Dell G15 5520 is more budget-friendly and offers solid performance for gaming, with a high-refresh-rate display suited for fast-paced action. However, it's heavier and has a less color-accurate screen with lower resolution, making it less ideal for professionals in graphic design or video editing. In contrast, the Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio 2 is significantly more expensive but provides a higher-resolution, touch-enabled display with superior color accuracy and a better battery life. It's lighter, which aids in portability, and includes hardware features beneficial for professional creative work such as ray tracing and DLSS. If budget is a concern and portability isn't top priority, the Dell may suit you well; but if you need a high-performing, portable laptop with a focus on creative tasks, the Surface Laptop Studio 2 is the more suitable option. How the Dell G15 5520 and the Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio 2 compare to other laptops
Olivier Martin, Ryan Lim, and John Peroramas | April 2023
"The Dell G15 (2022) is a 15.6-inch budget gaming laptop, and is great for gaming. You can configure the laptop with powerful Intel 12th Gen. CPUs and various NVIDIA dedicated GPUs, all of which deliver a smooth gaming experience at 1080p. There's also a QHD 240Hz display option if you want better visuals, though you'll have to pair it with the top-end NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti to get good frame rates. It doesn't get overly hot or loud under load, and there's no noticeable throttling on the CPU or GPU. Unfortunately, the 120Hz panel has a slow response time, causing noticeable ghosting, and it doesn't support variable refresh rate."
"The new Surface Laptop Studio with its foldable display is supposed to replace the old Surface Book and the overall impression is good after our review. The build quality and the materials are top-notch, the performance utilization of the two components is solid and the device does not show any major flaws in terms of display or speakers, either. The folding mechanism leaves a sold impression as well, but it remains to be seen how it will hold up over the years. The so-called presentation mode is also not ideal since it covers the whole keyboard."
