If you prioritize battery life and a higher resolution display, the Lenovo Legion Slim 5i, with its longer battery life and sharper screen, would be ideal for tasks like video editing or design. However, the Dell G15 5520, while it may have a less impressive battery and screen resolution, its build has been defined as contributing to good heat management, which can be crucial if you’re into heavy gaming or intensive computing tasks. Both laptops are similarly priced and offer quality keyboards, but if weight is a concern, the Lenovo is slightly lighter which could be beneficial if you'll be carrying it around frequently. The Lenovo Legion Slim 5i has a better screen than the Dell G15 5520 for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, content creation, and software development.
The Dell G15 5520 is well-suited for general use and engineering due to its solid resolution and panel type, which offer clarity and color accuracy, though its lower refresh rate makes it less ideal for gaming and 3D applications where smooth motion is key. On the other hand, the Lenovo Legion Slim 5i excels in general use with superior brightness and resolution, providing sharp and vibrant visuals, and also serves engineering well with decent color gamut coverage, but like the Dell, it falls short for gaming and 3D because of a lower refresh rate that can't match the fluidity required for those activities. Overall, both laptops are competent for productivity and professional work, but gamers and 3D designers should consider other options with faster screen refresh rates to enhance their visual experience.
The Lenovo Legion Slim 5i and Dell G15 5520 are both good for general use.
The Dell G15 5520 provides ample power for general use with its solid CPU and RAM, a quality IPS screen, and a good balance of portability and battery life, while the Lenovo Legion Slim 5i offers a similar CPU and RAM setup, a higher-resolution screen for crisper visuals, and superior battery life in a slightly more portable form. Though both are strong contenders for general use, the Lenovo might be preferred for its screen and battery longevity, whereas the Dell offers robust performance for everyday tasks with a decent keyboard and sufficient portability.

The Lenovo Legion Slim 5i boasts a more powerful Nvidia RTX 4060 GPU which enhances gaming and 3D performance compared to the Dell G15 5520 with its Nvidia RTX 3060 GPU, while both laptops share the same high screen refresh rate for smooth visuals during gameplay. Despite a somewhat more capable CPU and better screen quality in the Lenovo, both factors are considered less crucial but still contribute to the superior gaming experience it provides over the Dell model.

The Dell G15 5520 and Lenovo Legion Slim 5i are both equipped with high-performance CPUs and GPUs, substantial RAM, and quality screens that suit engineering and design work, but the Lenovo stands out with a higher resolution and color coverage, which is crucial for detail-oriented tasks. The Dell offers good performance for engineering software but has lesser screen quality compared to the Lenovo; however, it may be preferred for its slightly better build and heat management when running intensive tasks. Both have their strengths in keyboard quality and speaker performance, but for portability and lower operating noise, which are somewhat important, the Lenovo gains an edge due to its slightly lighter build and better noise management.

How the Dell G15 5520 and the Lenovo Legion Slim 5i compare to other laptops
Olivier Martin, Ryan Lim, and John Peroramas | April 2023
"The Dell G15 (2022) is a 15.6-inch budget gaming laptop, and is great for gaming. You can configure the laptop with powerful Intel 12th Gen. CPUs and various NVIDIA dedicated GPUs, all of which deliver a smooth gaming experience at 1080p. There's also a QHD 240Hz display option if you want better visuals, though you'll have to pair it with the top-end NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti to get good frame rates. It doesn't get overly hot or loud under load, and there's no noticeable throttling on the CPU or GPU. Unfortunately, the 120Hz panel has a slow response time, causing noticeable ghosting, and it doesn't support variable refresh rate."
"The Lenovo Legion Slim 5 Gen 8 acknowledges that a gaming laptop doesn’t have to be as thick as possible and can still ensure adequate cooling when the muscles need flexing. To this end, in the Slim 5 Gen 8, it finds a neat balance of refined, trimmed-down design that still lets its internals cruise (even above their max power ratings). Lenovo then added in some high-end build quality with an altogether excellent keyboard that’s useful for both work and play."
