When choosing between the Dell G15 5520 and the Lenovo Legion Slim 5, consider that the Dell has an Intel i7 processor with a dedicated Nvidia RTX 3060 graphics card, which may provide strong performance for demanding applications and gaming. However, it's heavier and slightly thicker, which could impact portability. On the other hand, the Lenovo Legion Slim 5 features an AMD Ryzen 5 processor and an Nvidia RTX 4060 graphics card. It also offers a higher resolution display with a taller aspect ratio, which can be better for productivity, and its battery is larger. Plus, it's lighter and slimmer, enhancing its portability. Lenovo's choice could offer a more balanced experience between performance, display quality, and ease of carrying around. Both laptops should handle general use and more intensive tasks like 3D applications, machine learning, or engineering software well, but the specific choice may hinge on whether you prioritize portability and battery life (Lenovo) or potentially stronger CPU performance (Dell). The Dell G15 5520 has a better screen than the Lenovo Legion Slim 5 for content creation.
For general use, both the Dell G15 5520 and Lenovo Legion Slim 5 offer screens that have ample resolution and brightness, providing clear and vibrant visuals suitable for everyday tasks like browsing and video streaming. In engineering and design work, they both support a sufficiently wide color range to ensure accurate color rendering, crucial for tasks like photo editing and graphic design. The Dell G15 5520 and Lenovo Legion Slim 5 are both good for general use.
The Dell G15 5520 is suitable for general use due to its powerful Intel CPU, ample RAM, and quality IPS screen that ensure smooth operation, although it is heavier and has less battery life compared to the Lenovo Legion Slim 5, which also boasts strong general use performance with a competent AMD CPU, high RAM, and a bright display with higher screen resolution, all in a thinner and lighter form factor conducive to portability and longer unplugged usage. Both laptops have sufficient storage, good keyboard quality, and manage heat and noise effectively, but the Lenovo has a slight edge in speaker quality and screen colors, adding to a more immersive experience.

How the Dell G15 5520 and the Lenovo Legion Slim 5 compare to other laptops
Olivier Martin, Ryan Lim, and John Peroramas | April 2023
"The Dell G15 (2022) is a 15.6-inch budget gaming laptop, and is great for gaming. You can configure the laptop with powerful Intel 12th Gen. CPUs and various NVIDIA dedicated GPUs, all of which deliver a smooth gaming experience at 1080p. There's also a QHD 240Hz display option if you want better visuals, though you'll have to pair it with the top-end NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti to get good frame rates. It doesn't get overly hot or loud under load, and there's no noticeable throttling on the CPU or GPU. Unfortunately, the 120Hz panel has a slow response time, causing noticeable ghosting, and it doesn't support variable refresh rate."
"The Lenovo Legion Slim 5 Gen 8 acknowledges that a gaming laptop doesn’t have to be as thick as possible and can still ensure adequate cooling when the muscles need flexing. To this end, in the Slim 5 Gen 8, it finds a neat balance of refined, trimmed-down design that still lets its internals cruise (even above their max power ratings). Lenovo then added in some high-end build quality with an altogether excellent keyboard that’s useful for both work and play."
