The Dell G15 5520 generally costs slightly less and offers more storage out of the box, which could be a deciding factor if budget and storage are high on your list. It's lighter and boasts a higher screen refresh rate, which is great for gaming and smooth visuals. However, the Lenovo Legion 5 17" has a larger screen size, which can be preferable for immersive gaming and productivity tasks, but this also makes it a bit heavier and potentially less convenient to carry around. It includes a larger battery, which may result in longer usage between charges. Both laptops contain similar processors and GPUs, so performance in general use, engineering tasks, and 3D/machine learning should be fairly comparable, but these factors could tip the scales depending on your preferences for screen size, battery life, portability, and price. How the Dell G15 5520 and the Lenovo Legion 5 17" compare to other laptops
Olivier Martin, Ryan Lim, and John Peroramas | April 2023
"The Dell G15 (2022) is a 15.6-inch budget gaming laptop, and is great for gaming. You can configure the laptop with powerful Intel 12th Gen. CPUs and various NVIDIA dedicated GPUs, all of which deliver a smooth gaming experience at 1080p. There's also a QHD 240Hz display option if you want better visuals, though you'll have to pair it with the top-end NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti to get good frame rates. It doesn't get overly hot or loud under load, and there's no noticeable throttling on the CPU or GPU. Unfortunately, the 120Hz panel has a slow response time, causing noticeable ghosting, and it doesn't support variable refresh rate."
"The Lenovo Legion 5 17 is a current-gen 17-inch gaming laptop and equipped with the latest AMD CPU and a powerful GPU, that manages to reach its full potential. The AMD Ryzen 5 5600H is a very good choice for this laptop and able to maintain its performance level for long periods of time. Our test model only falls behind consistently in a direct comparison with its competitors that are often equipped with eight cores and 16 threads. Despite this, the Legion 5 17 leaves an excellent impression and is almost able to keep up with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 mobile GPU in synthetic benchmarks."
