The ASUS TUF Gaming F17 and the MSI Modern 14 serve different purposes, so your choice will depend on your primary use. The ASUS TUF Gaming F17, with its larger screen and more powerful components, is well-suited for gaming, 3D rendering, and other demanding tasks, but it will be heavier and have shorter battery life, making it less portable. On the other hand, the MSI Modern 14 offers a balance of performance and portability, making it a better choice for general use and for those who need to carry their laptop around frequently. The Modern 14 will afford longer battery life but won't handle intensive engineering or gaming tasks as well as the ASUS. Consider the importance of portability versus performance for your daily activities to guide your decision. Give Feedback

The ASUS TUF Gaming F17 and MSI Modern 14 are both only fair for gaming and AI, though the ASUS TUF Gaming F17 is somewhat better.
The ASUS TUF Gaming F17 comes with an Nvidia RTX 3050 Ti GPU and a 144Hz screen refresh rate, which are better suited for high-performance gaming and 3D tasks compared to the MSI Modern 14 that leverages an integrated AMD Ryzen Vega 7 GPU with a 60Hz refresh rate, ultimately offering a less optimal gaming experience. Both have fair CPUs and screen quality, but the ASUS's superior GPU and refresh rate make it more suitable for gaming and 3D work, despite being less portable and having a lower battery life than the MSI.

The ASUS TUF Gaming F17 has a better screen than the MSI Modern 14 for general use, gaming and AI, and engineering and design, while the MSI Modern 14 has a better screen for content creation.
The ASUS TUF Gaming F17 offers a screen that is vibrant and bright enough for browsing and video streaming, but for engineering and design, it doesn't cover the wider color gamuts that professionals require for color accuracy. Its screen falls short for gaming and 3D due to a lower refresh rate, which can affect the smoothness of motion. On the other hand, the MSI Modern 14 provides suitable clarity and brightness for daily tasks and sufficient color accuracy for non-professional design work, yet its refresh rate and panel type do not meet the high standards needed for immersive gaming and 3D rendering.

How the ASUS TUF Gaming F17 and the MSI Modern 14 compare to other laptops
"One of the Asus TUF Gaming F17’s highlights is without a doubt its excellent gaming performance. The fact that Asus configured the RTX 3060 GPU for its specified maximum of 140 W is became immediately noticeable in our benchmarks. For a 17-inch notebook the F17 also offers a very long battery life, which makes it somewhat portable. On the flip side is the display. It may be saved by its good overall contrast ratio, but its overall brightness is simply too low, and its response times are too slow for a gaming device. The F17’s successor needs to improve upon this."
Alexander Tozzi, Ryan Lim, and John Peroramas | October 2023
"The MSI Modern 14 is okay for school use. It's very compact, so it's easy to carry around. It has a sharp display, a spacious keyboard, and a reasonably large touchpad. Its Intel 13th Gen CPU and integrated graphics can handle general productivity tasks like text processing and web browsing; however, don't expect to do anything intensive like 3D modeling or physics simulations. Unfortunately, the battery lasts less than five hours of light use, and the display doesn't get bright enough to combat glare."
