The ASUS TUF Gaming F17 offers a larger screen, a more powerful graphics card suitable for intensive gaming, and a higher refresh rate for smoother visuals than the MSI GF63 Thin; however, it is more expensive and less portable due to its larger size and weight. On the other hand, the MSI GF63 Thin is more affordable, lighter, and offers better portability but comes with a smaller screen, less powerful GPU not ideally suited for intense gaming, and a lower refresh rate which may affect fast-paced visuals. If gaming performance and larger display are priorities, and portability and cost are less of a concern, the ASUS may be the better option, whereas if affordability and ease of transport are more important, the MSI could be preferable. The ASUS TUF Gaming F17 and MSI GF63 Thin are both only fair for engineering and design, though the ASUS TUF Gaming F17 is somewhat better.
The ASUS TUF Gaming F17 is well-suited for engineering and design tasks as it is equipped with a more powerful CPU (Intel i5-11400H) and GPU (Nvidia RTX 3050 Ti) compared to the MSI GF63 Thin's Intel i5-10300H processor and Nvidia GTX 1650 Max-Q GPU, which translate to better performance in computational and graphically intensive applications. While both have a similar amount of RAM and IPS screens with standard resolution, the ASUS offers a larger screen and higher refresh rate, enhancing visual workspace and smoothness; however, it's heavier and slightly less portable than the lighter MSI laptop.

The ASUS TUF Gaming F17 has a better screen than the MSI GF63 Thin for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, software development, and content creation.
If you prioritize a sharp and vivid display for everyday tasks like browsing and video streaming, the ASUS TUF Gaming F17 offers a decent balance with respectable resolution and brightness, making it suitable for general use. For engineering and design work, where color accuracy is paramount, both laptops have limitations in reproducing the wide color gamuts professionals need, classifying them as fair options for these fields. Gamers and 3D artists, however, would find both models lacking due to subpar refresh rates and only moderate resolution and panel types, detracting from the smooth and immersive experience desired in fast-paced games and 3D rendering.

"One of the Asus TUF Gaming F17’s highlights is without a doubt its excellent gaming performance. The fact that Asus configured the RTX 3060 GPU for its specified maximum of 140 W is became immediately noticeable in our benchmarks. For a 17-inch notebook the F17 also offers a very long battery life, which makes it somewhat portable. On the flip side is the display. It may be saved by its good overall contrast ratio, but its overall brightness is simply too low, and its response times are too slow for a gaming device. The F17’s successor needs to improve upon this."
"If you leave aside the meagre port selection (no card reader, no DisplayPort, no Thunderbolt 3 or USB 3.1 Gen2), the fan control that could be improved (idle mode!) and the relatively dark and slow display, the MSI GF63 Thin 9SC does not have any major weaknesses. The 15-inch gamer is compact, has a low weight and offers a good price-to-performance ratio, which should please gamers that are looking for both a portable and an affordable gaming notebook. Input devices, battery life, case quality and performance are all appropriate for this purchase price."
