The Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio 2 is very good for general use, while the ASUS TUF Gaming F17 is good.
The Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio 2 offers better general use capabilities with a more powerful CPU, significantly more RAM, and a higher quality screen with a higher resolution and touch support, providing a sharper and more interactive user experience. In contrast, the ASUS TUF Gaming F17 is less portable due to its larger size and heavier weight, and while suitable for general tasks, it falls short with a lower-tier CPU, less RAM, and lower screen quality; however, it still has a robust build with good heat management and a larger screen for those who prioritize gaming or multimedia consumption.

The Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio 2 is very good for engineering and design, while the ASUS TUF Gaming F17 is only fair.
The Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio 2 provides substantial advantages for engineering and design with its more powerful CPU, substantially larger RAM, and stronger GPU paired with a high-resolution touchscreen and robust build quality, making it highly suitable for resource-intensive tasks and creative work. In contrast, the ASUS TUF Gaming F17, while offering a reliable CPU and GPU combination for engineering use and gaming, is outmatched in screen quality and overall system capability but does come in at a more affordable entry point and greater bulk, potentially appealing for those who prioritize budget and a larger screen over top-of-the-line specifications and portability.

The Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio 2 has a better screen than the ASUS TUF Gaming F17 for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, content creation, and software development.
For general use, the ASUS TUF Gaming F17's screen offers a decent balance of resolution and brightness, but the Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio 2 stands out with higher resolution and brightness, enhancing everyday tasks like browsing and video streaming. In terms of engineering and design, the Surface Laptop Studio 2's display covers a wider color gamut, making it more suitable for tasks that require color accuracy, while the ASUS's color range may be sufficient but not optimal. However, for gaming and 3D where refresh rate is key, both laptops fall short due to lower refresh rates, making them less ideal for a smooth and responsive visual experience in fast-paced games or 3D applications.

"One of the Asus TUF Gaming F17’s highlights is without a doubt its excellent gaming performance. The fact that Asus configured the RTX 3060 GPU for its specified maximum of 140 W is became immediately noticeable in our benchmarks. For a 17-inch notebook the F17 also offers a very long battery life, which makes it somewhat portable. On the flip side is the display. It may be saved by its good overall contrast ratio, but its overall brightness is simply too low, and its response times are too slow for a gaming device. The F17’s successor needs to improve upon this."
"The new Surface Laptop Studio with its foldable display is supposed to replace the old Surface Book and the overall impression is good after our review. The build quality and the materials are top-notch, the performance utilization of the two components is solid and the device does not show any major flaws in terms of display or speakers, either. The folding mechanism leaves a sold impression as well, but it remains to be seen how it will hold up over the years. The so-called presentation mode is also not ideal since it covers the whole keyboard."
