The ASUS TUF Gaming F17, being less expensive, offers a good balance for gaming with a dedicated GPU and high refresh rate display, making it suitable for gaming and general use but with a bulky form and average battery life, it may not be ideal for mobility. On the other hand, the Lenovo ThinkPad Z16, at a higher price, provides enhanced performance with more RAM and storage, a high-resolution OLED touchscreen, and better battery life, geared towards professionals requiring top-tier display quality and processing power for tasks like 3D rendering and engineering, but the gaming performance may not be as strong as the ASUS. The Lenovo ThinkPad Z16 is very good for engineering and design, while the ASUS TUF Gaming F17 is only fair.
The Lenovo ThinkPad Z16 is very good for engineering and design use because it offers a high-resolution OLED screen with superior color coverage, a powerful Ryzen 7 CPU, ample RAM, and a decent GPU, making it ideal for demanding tasks such as 3D rendering and design work. In comparison, the ASUS TUF Gaming F17, with its lower-resolution screen, less RAM, and an older generation Intel CPU and Nvidia GPU, is simply considered good, as it is capable of engineering tasks but may not handle complex designs as smoothly or display colors as accurately.

The Lenovo ThinkPad Z16 has a better screen than the ASUS TUF Gaming F17 for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, content creation, and software development.
For general use, the vibrant colors and sharp image quality due to the superior resolution and brightness make the Lenovo ThinkPad Z16's screen stand out, whereas the ASUS TUF Gaming F17's screen, although good, may not be as bright or high-res. In engineering and design tasks where color accuracy is crucial, the ThinkPad Z16 shines with its excellent coverage of color gamuts, providing accuracy for professional work, whereas the F17's coverage may suffice but isn't ideal. When it comes to gaming or 3D applications, the low refresh rate of both laptops can hinder the smoothness of motion, making neither an optimal choice despite the ASUS having a moderately good panel type and resolution, which are less impactful without a higher refresh rate.

How the ASUS TUF Gaming F17 and the Lenovo ThinkPad Z16 compare to other laptops
"One of the Asus TUF Gaming F17’s highlights is without a doubt its excellent gaming performance. The fact that Asus configured the RTX 3060 GPU for its specified maximum of 140 W is became immediately noticeable in our benchmarks. For a 17-inch notebook the F17 also offers a very long battery life, which makes it somewhat portable. On the flip side is the display. It may be saved by its good overall contrast ratio, but its overall brightness is simply too low, and its response times are too slow for a gaming device. The F17’s successor needs to improve upon this."
"Lenovo’s ThinkPad Z16 tries has some success in its effort to tweak the ThinkPad formula. The laptop is attractive, yet still tame, and material quality is on par with the best Windows competition. I also like the smooth, responsive haptic touchpad and the wide range of modern connectivity. Yet the Z16 doesn’t fix ThinkPad’s typical weakness: value. Starting around $1,550, and more typically near $1,700, the Z16 finds itself facing alternatives that have better performance or an improved display for the same price, or less."
