The ASUS TUF Gaming F17 offers a gaming appearance, lower price, and a higher refresh rate screen, which is better suited for gaming and fast-paced content. However, its battery life and build quality fall short compared to the Lenovo ThinkPad P16, which has a significantly better battery life, higher-quality keyboard and speakers, and performs better for engineering tasks due to its higher RAM and better CPU. The ThinkPad P16 also has a higher resolution and color-accurate screen, beneficial for professional creative work but has less portability due to its weight. If budget is a primary concern and gaming is a priority, the ASUS might be more appealing, whereas if you're focused on professional applications, long usage away from power outlets, and willing to invest more, the Lenovo is the more suitable choice. Although the ThinkPad P16 is less portable and has a higher weight compared to the ASUS, it compensates with a much longer battery life, which is a critical factor for general use.

The Lenovo ThinkPad P16 is very good for engineering and design, while the ASUS TUF Gaming F17 is only fair.
The Lenovo ThinkPad P16 surpasses the ASUS TUF Gaming F17 in engineering and design use due to its more powerful CPU, double the RAM, and a superior GPU, paired with a higher resolution screen that provides better color accuracy and brightness, which are deemed very important for such tasks. Although the ASUS TUF has decent performance specifications and a larger screen, its lower performance components and display quality make it less ideal than the Lenovo, which, however, sacrifices portability due to increased weight and larger battery.

The Lenovo ThinkPad P16 has a better screen than the ASUS TUF Gaming F17 for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, content creation, and software development.
When considering general use, the Lenovo ThinkPad P16 stands out due to its higher resolution and brightness, resulting in sharper images and better visibility in various lighting conditions, whereas the ASUS TUF Gaming F17, while adequate, may not display content as crisply. For engineering and design tasks, the ThinkPad P16's superior color coverage ensures more accurate color representation, crucial for detail-oriented work, which the TUF Gaming F17's screen may not deliver as effectively. Regarding 3D performance, the lower refresh rate of both laptops means they may not provide the smoothest experience for fast-paced 3D tasks, with the TUF Gaming F17 further hampered by its lesser screen attributes.

How the ASUS TUF Gaming F17 and the Lenovo ThinkPad P16 compare to other laptops
"One of the Asus TUF Gaming F17’s highlights is without a doubt its excellent gaming performance. The fact that Asus configured the RTX 3060 GPU for its specified maximum of 140 W is became immediately noticeable in our benchmarks. For a 17-inch notebook the F17 also offers a very long battery life, which makes it somewhat portable. On the flip side is the display. It may be saved by its good overall contrast ratio, but its overall brightness is simply too low, and its response times are too slow for a gaming device. The F17’s successor needs to improve upon this."
"It's only a few months since we gave the MSI CreatorPro X17 one of our rare 4.5-star ratings and our top mobile workstation honor, but the Lenovo ThinkPad P16 Gen 1 matches that achievement in a more premium overall build. Ultimately, its build quality, screen, and keyboard give our latest Editors' Choice nod to the Lenovo—it's enough of a monster on almost all fronts that it simply cannot be ignored."
