Based on your interest in the ASUS TUF Gaming F17 and the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15", consider the following: if high performance, especially for gaming, 3D applications, or machine learning tasks is important to you and you're okay with a larger, heavier device and higher cost, the ASUS TUF Gaming F17 with its more powerful processor and dedicated graphics card could be more suitable. However, if you prioritize portability, longer battery life, and a lower price, while still handling general use adequately, the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15" may be the better option, although its lower screen resolution and integrated graphics mean it won't perform as well in visually intensive tasks. The ASUS TUF Gaming F17 is good for general use, while the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15" is only fair.
The Asus TUF Gaming F17, with its higher performance Intel i5 CPU and Nvidia RTX graphics, is better equipped than the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 for tasks beyond general use but is less portable due to its larger size and heavier weight. While the Lenovo has a lower performance Intel i3 CPU and integrated graphics, making it less suitable for intensive applications, it offers better battery life and portability, an important consideration for users who prioritize mobility over performance.

The ASUS TUF Gaming F17 has a better screen than the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15" for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, software development, and content creation.
For general use, the ASUS TUF Gaming F17's screen offers a better visual experience with its higher resolution and brighter display, while the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 has a lower resolution and dimmer screen which makes it less appealing for everyday tasks. When it comes to engineering and design, the ASUS's fair screen quality comes into play with wider color coverage, essential for precision in color work, whereas the IdeaPad 3 falls short with its limited color range. For gaming and 3D applications where smooth motion is key, the ASUS’s lower refresh rate doesn't deliver as fluid visuals as dedicated gaming laptops, while the IdeaPad's screen also struggles due to both the lower refresh rate and resolution.

How the ASUS TUF Gaming F17 and the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15" compare to other laptops
"One of the Asus TUF Gaming F17’s highlights is without a doubt its excellent gaming performance. The fact that Asus configured the RTX 3060 GPU for its specified maximum of 140 W is became immediately noticeable in our benchmarks. For a 17-inch notebook the F17 also offers a very long battery life, which makes it somewhat portable. On the flip side is the display. It may be saved by its good overall contrast ratio, but its overall brightness is simply too low, and its response times are too slow for a gaming device. The F17’s successor needs to improve upon this."
"The Lenovo IdeaPad 3 is an enduring office notebook with a powerful Ryzen APU. Lenovo's office all-rounder easily handles office and internet applications as well as modest games - the Ryzen 5 5625U APU and 16 GB of RAM make this possible. The CPU and GPU can work at consistently high clock rates. The emission values are okay, but the noise emissions should be lower under medium to full load. The relatively light notebook (approx. 1.6 kg) achieves practical battery runtimes of about 10 to 11 hours."
