The ASUS TUF Gaming F15 offers higher performance, suited for intensive gaming, 3D rendering, and engineering tasks with a dedicated Nvidia RTX 4070 graphics card, more RAM, and a faster Intel i7 processor. However, it is typically priced higher, heavier, and has shorter battery life, making it less portable. On the other hand, the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 17" is more affordable, lighter, and has a longer battery life but has less powerful integrated graphics and a slower AMD Ryzen 5 processor, making it more suitable for general use rather than for gaming or professional applications. The ASUS TUF Gaming F15 is very good for gaming and AI, while the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 17" is only fair.
The ASUS TUF Gaming F15, with its higher-end GPU and faster screen refresh rate, can deliver a smoother and more immersive gaming experience than the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 17", which has a more modest GPU and lower screen refresh rate, making it less ideal for high-speed gaming and detailed 3D tasks. While both laptops can handle general gaming, those interested in more demanding gaming or 3D work will appreciate the ASUS's superior visual performance and responsiveness.

The ASUS TUF Gaming F15 is very good for engineering and design, while the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 17" is only fair.
The ASUS TUF Gaming F15 outshines the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 17" for engineering and design due to its superior CPU, more RAM, and a high-performance GPU, making it suitable for demanding software often used in these fields, while the IdeaPad settles for an integrated GPU and less RAM, thus not supporting intensive tasks as effectively. The ASUS also boasts a better screen quality for detail-oriented work, though the larger screen of the IdeaPad may be preferred for its size, but at the cost of color accuracy and contrast, which are pivotal for precise design work.

The ASUS TUF Gaming F15 has a better screen than the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 17" for gaming and AI, and content creation, while the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 17" has a better screen for engineering and design.
The ASUS TUF Gaming F15 has a faster refresh rate which is less crucial for general use and engineering tasks, therefore its fair image quality and limited color gamuts lead to only fair performance in those areas but renders it less suitable for gaming and 3D applications that rely on high refresh rates. On the other hand, the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 17" offers a good balance of resolution and brightness which benefits general use, along with decent color accuracy for engineering and design work, but lacks the high refresh rate needed for optimal gaming and 3D rendering experiences. Both laptops have limitations for gaming and 3D due to their poor screen quality in high refresh rate scenarios, but the Lenovo edges out for general use and engineering tasks due to its better overall screen attributes in those contexts.

How the ASUS TUF Gaming F15 and the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 17" compare to other laptops
"Aside from all the chassis updates, the new TUF Gaming is most notable for its much higher TGP target of 140 W compared to only 95 W on the previous generation. PC makers everywhere are using the same GeForce GPUs this year since Nvidia has yet to launch the successor to the mobile RTX 3000 series. The more demanding processors of the new TUF Gaming has directly impacted battery life and the size of the AC adapter. Don't expect runtimes to be longer than on the previous generation under most conditions and be prepared to carry around an even larger AC adapter than before."
"The Lenovo IdeaPad 3 17" defies expectations. Indeed, it is just a minor upgrade over last year. However, this doesn’t make the laptop any less terrific. It’s got a great performance, courtesy of the Ryzen 5x25U processors. In addition, you get a pretty good battery life. Perhaps, the 2-hour decrease in video playback, compared to last year is not great, but still, 10 hours of Web browsing and 7 hours of video playback is okay for 17-inch notebooks."
