The ASUS TUF Gaming A17 is a more expensive option with high-end graphics, a large screen, and a high refresh rate, making it better suited for gaming and intensive tasks. It's also heavier, which reduces its portability. The Lenovo IdeaPad 1 15" is less expensive, more portable, and has enough capability for general use and lighter tasks. If you need performance for demanding activities like gaming or engineering, the ASUS is a better choice; for everyday use like web browsing and document editing, the Lenovo IdeaPad would suffice and be easier to carry around. The ASUS TUF Gaming A17 is very good for general use, while the Lenovo IdeaPad 1 15" is good.
The ASUS TUF Gaming A17 offers superior performance with a higher-end CPU and more RAM, which is complemented by a better GPU, making it well-suited for both gaming and demanding applications, but it is less portable and has lower battery life compared to the lighter and more battery-efficient Lenovo IdeaPad 1 15", which has a more modest CPU and less RAM, making it more suitable for less intensive tasks. Both laptops have good screen quality, with the IdeaPad featuring touchscreen capabilities, though the ASUS provides a bigger screen and higher refresh rate, beneficial for gaming and smooth visuals, at the cost of portability and battery life.

The ASUS TUF Gaming A17 is very good for engineering and design, while the Lenovo IdeaPad 1 15" is only fair.
The ASUS TUF Gaming A17 offers better performance for engineering and design use due to its powerful AMD Ryzen 9 CPU, substantial RAM, and dedicated Nvidia RTX GPU, as well as a high-quality IPS screen, making it suitable for demanding software and detailed visuals. The Lenovo IdeaPad 1 15", while more portable with a lighter build, has a less powerful AMD Ryzen 7 CPU and integrated graphics, and lower RAM, which means it's adequate for less intensive tasks but may struggle with more complex engineering and design applications.

The ASUS TUF Gaming A17 has a better screen than the Lenovo IdeaPad 1 15" for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, software development, and content creation.
The ASUS TUF Gaming A17's fair screen quality for general use is due to its adequate resolution and brightness, but the panel type may not be the highest grade available. For engineering and design, the screen's coverage of color gamuts might not meet the high standards required for professional color work, impacting the overall quality. In the context of gaming and 3D, the laptop's lower refresh rate can hinder the smooth visual experience that is crucial for fast-paced games or fluid 3D rendering, despite its acceptable resolution and panel type.

How the ASUS TUF Gaming A17 and the Lenovo IdeaPad 1 15" compare to other laptops
"There is one big question that needs an answer. Is the TUF Gaming A17 FA707 a better purchase than the ROG Strix G17 G713R (2022)? Well, it depends. Undoubtedly, the Strix is the more premium product. Arguably the biggest advantage it has over its TUF fellow is in regards to the display. ASUS TUF Gaming A17 A707’s IPS panel has a Full HD resolution, comfortable viewing angles, and a very good contrast ratio."
"The Lenovo IdeaPad 1 15" is affordable and pretty efficient. At the end of the day, the Lenovo IdeaPad 1 (15″, 2023) is one of the better affordable laptops money can buy right now. It has a decent performance, albeit coming from a CPU that is based on old architecture. Playing low-intensity games is possible but at low to medium settings. We are really happy with the cooling setup, but the main event here is the battery life. We got 9 hours of either Web browsing or video playback, which is a great result. Especially if you compare this device with the ASUS E410."
