The Asus ROG Strix Scar 17 X3D is a top-tier gaming and engineering powerhouse with a high-end price to match. It boasts an advanced AMD Ryzen 9 processor and the latest Nvidia RTX 4090 graphics, ensuring exceptional performance for the most demanding tasks, including gaming, 3D rendering, and machine learning. Its large 17.3-inch high-resolution display with a 240Hz refresh rate and superior color accuracy is ideal for fast-paced action and professional-grade visual work. However, its size and weight make it less portable, and the battery life is relatively short.
On the other hand, the Dell G15 5520 offers a more balanced approach at a lower midrange price. It's equipped with a capable Intel i7 processor and Nvidia RTX 3060 graphics, delivering solid performance for general use, gaming, and light engineering tasks. The 15.6-inch screen with a 165Hz refresh rate is suitable for gaming, though it falls short in color reproduction compared to the Asus. The Dell is more compact and has a longer battery life, making it a better choice for those who prioritize portability and general productivity.
In summary, if you need unparalleled performance for intensive tasks and are less concerned with portability or price, the Asus ROG Strix Scar 17 X3D is the way to go. However, if you're looking for a versatile laptop that provides a good balance between performance, battery life, and portability at a more affordable price, the Dell G15 5520 is the better option. How the Asus ROG Strix Scar 17 X3D and the Dell G15 5520 compare to other laptops
Olivier Martin, Ryan Lim, and John Peroramas | April 2023
"The Dell G15 (2022) is a 15.6-inch budget gaming laptop, and is great for gaming. You can configure the laptop with powerful Intel 12th Gen. CPUs and various NVIDIA dedicated GPUs, all of which deliver a smooth gaming experience at 1080p. There's also a QHD 240Hz display option if you want better visuals, though you'll have to pair it with the top-end NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti to get good frame rates. It doesn't get overly hot or loud under load, and there's no noticeable throttling on the CPU or GPU. Unfortunately, the 120Hz panel has a slow response time, causing noticeable ghosting, and it doesn't support variable refresh rate."
