The ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17 is a premium laptop with a high-end processor and graphics card, which makes it a strong choice for intensive gaming, 3D rendering, and machine learning tasks. However, it is less portable due to its larger size and weight. On the other hand, the Gateway 14.1" is a budget-friendly option with modest performance suitable for general use. It is more portable because of its lighter weight and smaller size but doesn't match the performance capabilities of the ASUS for demanding activities. Consider the ASUS if performance is your priority or the Gateway if you need something cost-effective and more portable for basic tasks. Give Feedback

Allen Ngo | May 2021
"Asus ROG Strix Scar 17 laptop review: liquid metal 7 nm AMD Zen 3 is stunning. The raw performance increase is absolutely bonkers if you're upgrading from a laptop on Coffee Lake-H or older. The 45 W Ryzen 9 5900HX is neck-to-neck with the thicker, heavier, and hotter Schenker Ultra 17 running on a desktop-class Core i9-11900K despite their wide TDP differences. The performance-per-watt advantages can make Intel Rocket Lake feel like a last generation platform at times. As for the chassis itself, it's a huge light show with RGB LEDs on almost all sides of the system."

NotebookCheck

Allen Ngo | September 2021
"The Gateway Ultra Slim 14" is surprisingly quiet with long battery life. The inexpensive Gateway excels at maximizing performance per dollar with lots of RAM and storage, super-quiet fan, and a long battery life. It can even house up to two M.2 SSDs which we weren't expecting from such a cheap system. However, the iffy reliability of the keyboard and USB-C port on our test unit means users should double-check for these potential issues immediately after purchasing."
