The ASUS ROG Strix Scar 15 commands a higher price but offers significantly more power, with a high-end processor and advanced graphics suited for gaming, intensive 3D rendering, and machine learning tasks. However, its weight and battery life make it less portable than the Gateway 14.1", which is lighter and ideal for on-the-go use. The Gateway is much more affordable, with a basic processor good for everyday tasks, but it won't handle demanding applications well. Both have similar display sizes and resolutions, but the ASUS delivers a faster refresh rate, which is better for fast-paced visuals. If performance and gaming are your priorities, ASUS is the better choice despite being less portable and more expensive, while the Gateway is suitable for those with general use in mind and a preference for affordability and portability. The ASUS ROG Strix Scar 15 has a better screen than the Gateway 14.1" for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, software development, and content creation.
The ASUS ROG Strix Scar 15 likely offers a high resolution and bright display, making it good for general use and detailed engineering tasks, but its screen may have a lower refresh rate, diminishing quality for gaming and 3D applications. The Gateway 14.1" probably has an adequate resolution and brightness for basic tasks and some design work, but it likely lacks the color accuracy and range needed for professional engineering and design. Additionally, the Gateway’s refresh rate and potential panel limitations could lead to subpar experiences in gaming and 3D modeling, where smooth motion and visual fidelity are critical.

"Asus continues to refine the ROG Strix Scar lineup with new upgrades. The Asus ROG Strix Scar 15 offers almost everything you would expect from a gaming laptop at this price. The build quality is great, connectivity options are decent, and there is enough scope for internal upgrades as well. Asus reverts to membrane switches for the keyboard — though not as "clickety" as the opto-mechanical ones we saw with last year's model, they still make for a decent typing and gaming experience. The lack of biometrics in any form is a downer."
"The Gateway Ultra Slim 14" is surprisingly quiet with long battery life. The inexpensive Gateway excels at maximizing performance per dollar with lots of RAM and storage, super-quiet fan, and a long battery life. It can even house up to two M.2 SSDs which we weren't expecting from such a cheap system. However, the iffy reliability of the keyboard and USB-C port on our test unit means users should double-check for these potential issues immediately after purchasing."
