The ASUS ROG Strix G17 offers a larger display and higher resolution, better suited for immersive gaming and multimedia experiences, and it also has a better processor for intensive tasks. If you want a laptop at a midrange price, prefer AMD processors, and need longer battery life for general use, the ASUS might be the right choice. On the other hand, the MSI Stealth GS66 is more portable, weighing less, and has a higher refresh rate screen which is great for fast-paced gaming. It comes at a premium price but offers more features like a Thunderbolt port, which could be beneficial for certain peripherals or high-speed data transfers. Consider the ASUS if you prioritize screen size, processing power and price, and the MSI if portability, screen refresh rate, and additional features like Thunderbolt connectivity are more important to you. The ASUS ROG Strix G17 has a better screen than the MSI Stealth GS66 for general use, engineering and design, software development, and content creation.
The ASUS ROG Strix G17 offers a display that provides clear, sharp images and vibrant colors suitable for general tasks and detailed engineering work due to its high resolution and wide color coverage. However, it falls short for gaming and 3D applications because its screen refresh rate isn't fast enough to effectively display rapidly moving images, which can be crucial in these scenarios. Conversely, the MSI Stealth GS66 provides a balance with sufficient resolution and color accuracy for both general and engineering uses, but like the ASUS, it does not offer a high enough refresh rate to satisfy the demands of high-speed gaming and 3D rendering.

How the ASUS ROG Strix G17 and the MSI Stealth GS66 compare to other laptops
"The Asus ROG Strix G17 is an attractive but unbalanced gaming laptop. Its potent AMD Ryzen 9 processor excels in 1080p gaming, but playing at 1440p leaves the middling GeForce RTX 4060 GPU shouldering most of the burden. The display is exceptionally colorful, which is handy for content creators, but since this is a gaming laptop it would be better served with improved HDR capabilities. If battery life isn't a priority, the Strix G17 could serve as a designer by day and a gamer by night."
"The MSI Stealth GS66 is powerful enough for QHD. The Core i7-12700H and the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti found in the 12UGS model that we tested run all modern games smoothly in the native QHD resolution. The 15-inch display is very fast with its 240 Hz refresh rate, and it also offers a great color space (almost 100% DCI-P3) on top of that, which should please gamers as well as content creators, although we would have still wished for a higher brightness. Case, input devices, and connectivity (Thunderbolt 4) are at a good level. However, among other things, the GS66 loses points due to the high temperature development in 3D mode and its poor webcam."
