If you value high performance for tasks like intensive engineering, 3D modeling, machine learning, or high-end gaming, the ASUS ROG Strix G17 with its more powerful processor and graphics card is a better option despite costing more. However, if portability and budget are key concerns and you're okay with moderate gaming or general use, the HP Victus 15 is lighter, has longer battery life, and is significantly less expensive. Keep in mind though, with the HP, you'll compromise on screen size, refresh rate, and overall computing power. Both run Windows 11 Home, but the ASUS has more ports and a higher quality display. The ASUS ROG Strix G17 is very good for gaming and AI, while the HP Victus 15 is only fair.
The ASUS ROG Strix G17 excels in gaming and 3D tasks thanks to a more powerful Nvidia RTX 4060 GPU and a higher screen refresh rate of 240Hz, which is crucial for smooth gameplay and 3D rendering, while the HP Victus 15 has a less capable Nvidia RTX 3050 GPU and a lower 144Hz refresh rate, though it is still suitable for less demanding gaming and 3D work. Additionally, the ASUS has a higher-quality screen and a more robust processor, which contribute to better performance in these areas.

The ASUS ROG Strix G17 has a better screen than the HP Victus 15 for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, software development, and content creation.
When selecting a laptop for general use, the ASUS ROG Strix G17's high resolution and brightness make for a crisp and vivid display, while the HP Victus 15 offers a decent display but might not be as sharp or bright. For engineering and design tasks, the ASUS excels due to its wider color gamut, allowing for more accurate color representation, which is less prominent in the HP Victus 15. However, for gaming and 3D applications, the ASUS's lower refresh rate can make fast-paced visuals less smooth compared to laptops designed with higher refresh rates, which neither the ASUS nor the HP particularly cater to.

"The Asus ROG Strix G17 is an attractive but unbalanced gaming laptop. Its potent AMD Ryzen 9 processor excels in 1080p gaming, but playing at 1440p leaves the middling GeForce RTX 4060 GPU shouldering most of the burden. The display is exceptionally colorful, which is handy for content creators, but since this is a gaming laptop it would be better served with improved HDR capabilities. If battery life isn't a priority, the Strix G17 could serve as a designer by day and a gamer by night."
Olivier Martin, Ryan Lim, and Yannick Khong | March 2023
"The HP Victus 15 is great for gaming. It's available with Intel 12th Gen. CPUs and NVIDIA discrete graphics, which are powerful enough to provide a smooth gaming experience in demanding AAA titles at 1080p. It has a nice keyboard and a fast SSD, as well as Wi-Fi 6 and Ethernet connectivity for low-latency online gaming. Unfortunately, its 144Hz display has a slow response time causing noticeable ghosting, and it doesn't support variable refresh rate to reduce screen tearing."
