For high-performance tasks like gaming or intensive engineering software, the ASUS ROG Strix G17, costing less, offers powerful hardware but is bulkier, thus less convenient for travel. The Framework Laptop 16, on the other hand, prioritizes customization and repairability, with a sleeker design for better portability, though you'd invest more. If battery life and the freedom to upgrade components matter to you, the Framework might be the better long-term investment, but if sheer performance for the cost is the priority, the ASUS can be a smart choice. Consider your primary activities and whether mobility or raw power is more critical for you. Give Feedback

When considering a laptop for general use, a clear, high-resolution display with good brightness ensures that text is sharp and images are vibrant, which is something that the ASUS ROG Strix G17 and the Framework Laptop both offer. For engineering and design, accurate color representation is crucial, and both laptops have screens that cover a wide color gamut, making them suitable for professional photo editing and graphics work. However, for gaming and 3D applications where fast-paced visuals are the norm, the importance of a high refresh rate becomes paramount; on this front, the screens on these laptops may fall short, potentially leading to less smooth visual experiences in these scenarios.

How the ASUS ROG Strix G17 and the Framework Laptop 16 (2023) compare to other laptops
"The Asus ROG Strix G17 is an attractive but unbalanced gaming laptop. Its potent AMD Ryzen 9 processor excels in 1080p gaming, but playing at 1440p leaves the middling GeForce RTX 4060 GPU shouldering most of the burden. The display is exceptionally colorful, which is handy for content creators, but since this is a gaming laptop it would be better served with improved HDR capabilities. If battery life isn't a priority, the Strix G17 could serve as a designer by day and a gamer by night."
"The trend towards thinner and lighter laptops is made possible by fusing more and more components onto the mainboard. The main drawback to this approach is that it limits repairability as even a small fault may require replacing entire boards. Framework is one of the only manufacturers looking the other way in an attempt to improve end-user customization and servicing. There's no question that the Laptop 16 is more user-friendly to service than any alternative, but this lucrative feature comes at the cost of size and weight as individual components must be easily replaceable."
