The Lenovo LOQ 15 offers better performance for intensive engineering tasks, 3D and machine learning work, and is capable of gaming with features like hardware ray tracing and DLSS. Its larger size and weight, however, make it less portable than the MSI Modern 14, which is lighter and more suited for general use and everyday tasks with its efficient processor. If battery life is a concern, both laptops offer similar usage time. The MSI Modern 14 is a budget-friendly option that can handle general tasks well, while the Lenovo LOQ 15 is positioned at a midrange price point but has better capabilities for specialized applications and gaming. The Lenovo LOQ 15 has a better screen than the MSI Modern 14 for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, software development, and content creation.
The Lenovo LOQ 15's screen excels in displaying crisp images and vibrant colors suitable for everyday tasks and detailed engineering work due to its high resolution and broad color coverage, but lacks the high refresh rate necessary for the smooth visuals gamers and 3D designers look for. The MSI Modern 14 offers fair image quality and color accuracy that's adequate for day-to-day activity and professional design work, but falls short for gaming and 3D applications because of its average refresh rate and limited color gamut.

The Lenovo LOQ 15 and MSI Modern 14 are both good for general use.
The Lenovo LOQ 15 is suitable for general use with a powerful AMD Ryzen 7 processor, a dedicated Nvidia GPU, ample RAM, a high-refresh-rate display, and decent battery life, though it's larger and heavier which affects portability. The MSI Modern 14, also great for general use, offers a solid AMD Ryzen 5 processor with integrated graphics, enough RAM, a quality display, and is lighter with a more portable design, but it has a smaller battery capacity which may limit usage time away from power sources.

How the Lenovo LOQ 15 and the MSI Modern 14 compare to other laptops
"Even after a short time with the LOQ 15, you'll find it has a lot going for it, but ultimately it's just "good"—not quite a star. The performance is respectable for the hardware it’s running, but Lenovo had to make some design sacrifices to trim the price. One of the better aspects is the keyboard, making it one of the better low-cost gaming laptops to actually put your hands on."
Alexander Tozzi, Ryan Lim, and John Peroramas | October 2023
"The MSI Modern 14 is okay for school use. It's very compact, so it's easy to carry around. It has a sharp display, a spacious keyboard, and a reasonably large touchpad. Its Intel 13th Gen CPU and integrated graphics can handle general productivity tasks like text processing and web browsing; however, don't expect to do anything intensive like 3D modeling or physics simulations. Unfortunately, the battery lasts less than five hours of light use, and the display doesn't get bright enough to combat glare."
