The HP Stream 14" is a budget-friendly option, suitable for basic tasks like web browsing, document editing, and streaming videos, with modest performance due to its entry-level processor and low-resolution screen, which may not be ideal for multitasking or productivity. The Lenovo Legion 5 15", although more expensive, offers much higher performance suitable for intensive gaming, 3D rendering, and engineering software, along with a high-resolution display for better image quality. It's also heavier and less portable than the HP Stream 14", and has a shorter battery life, which might be a consideration if you need to work on the go. Choose the HP Stream 14" for casual use and cost savings, or the Lenovo Legion 5 15" for demanding applications and a better visual experience, embracing the higher cost and reduced mobility. The Lenovo Legion 5 15" is good for general use, while the HP Stream 14" is only fair.
The HP Stream 14", with its lower-powered Intel Celeron processor and basic Intel UHD Graphics, is built for lightweight tasks and offers longer battery life and greater portability due to its smaller screen and lighter weight. In contrast, the Lenovo Legion 5 15" packs a more powerful AMD Ryzen processor and Nvidia RTX graphics, making it better suited for demanding applications, though it is heavier and has a shorter battery life owing to its larger, higher resolution screen.

The Lenovo Legion 5 15" is very good for engineering and design, while the HP Stream 14" is poor.
The HP Stream 14" with an Intel Celeron CPU and Intel UHD Graphics is less capable of handling resource-intensive engineering tasks, compared to the Lenovo Legion 5 15" which boasts a more robust AMD Ryzen CPU and Nvidia RTX GPU, offering significantly higher performance for such applications. Additionally, the Lenovo offers superior screen quality with a higher resolution and better color space coverage, which is crucial for design work, albeit at the cost of being less portable due to its larger size and weight.

The Lenovo Legion 5 15" has a better screen than the HP Stream 14" for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, content creation, and software development.
The HP Stream 14" likely offers lower resolution and brightness, making it less ideal for sharp image quality and visibility in various lighting conditions, which matters a lot for everyday tasks. For engineering and design, the same laptop's limited color gamut means less accurate color representation, which is crucial for detailed and color-sensitive work. The Lenovo Legion 5 15", while having better resolution and panel quality for most activities, may have a lower refresh rate that hinders the smooth visuals important for gaming and working with 3D applications.

"With half of the main system memory and a fraction of the storage that we recommend in any budget Windows laptop, the HP Stream 14 does not impress. Perhaps it doesn't need to, depending on your reference point. For the price, you're getting a functional laptop with Windows 10, which already places the HP Stream 14 above most Chromebooks on that merit alone. Still, in this price range, you can't do much worse, but you can do better. In fact, for just $100 more, you can grab the much superior budget option, the Lenovo IdeaPad 1 14."
"The Lenovo Legion 5 15 is an affordable gaming laptop with a lot of power. The new AMD processor Ryzen 7 5800H offers plenty of performance and it is also very efficient. The combination with the fast 130W version of the GeForce RTX 3060 ensures high gaming performance. We also like the fast 165 Hz display with the 1080p resolution. The automatic graphics switching causes some problems with stutters, which are very annoying. If you do not need long battery runtimes, you should definitely deactivate the hybrid graphics mode in Lenovo's Vantage app. The Legion 5 15 is never silent."
