When choosing between the Gateway 15.6" and the HP Victus 15, consider that the Gateway offers more RAM, which is beneficial for multitasking and might perform smoothly for general use. However, the HP Victus 15, while costing slightly more, comes with a dedicated graphics card which makes it better for gaming, 3D work, or machine learning applications. The HP also features a higher-refresh-rate display, which makes for smoother visuals and is a bonus for gaming. If you highly value portability, the Gateway is lighter, but the tradeoff is that the HP has a sturdier build and longer battery life, making it better for extended use away from a power source. The HP Victus 15 has a better screen than the Gateway 15.6" for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, and content creation.
The Gateway 15.6" offers an adequate display for general tasks given its satisfactory resolution and brightness but lacks the advanced color accuracy needed for professional engineering or design work. The HP Victus 15's screen provides a more vivid experience for general use due to a better mix of resolution, panel quality, and brightness, although it's not optimal for color-critical engineering and design applications. Both models lack the high refresh rates required for smooth visuals in Gaming and 3D environments, and their resolution and panel types, while serviceable for general use, do not support the high-fidelity visual experience demanded by these specialized fields.

How the Gateway 15.6" and the HP Victus 15 compare to other laptops
"Some concessions have to be made when shopping for a budget laptop. Walmart's Gateway Ultra Slim laptops succeeds on the affordability front and delivers serviceable specs and good battery life, though it's hard to claim it's the best (or even particularly good) at any particular aspect. Its build quality, especially the touchpad, is mediocre, and its performance is decent but doesn't lead the way. The Gateway does undercut the cost of some competitors and offers ample storage with good connectivity, so it's not to be ignored."
Olivier Martin, Ryan Lim, and Yannick Khong | March 2023
"The HP Victus 15 is great for gaming. It's available with Intel 12th Gen. CPUs and NVIDIA discrete graphics, which are powerful enough to provide a smooth gaming experience in demanding AAA titles at 1080p. It has a nice keyboard and a fast SSD, as well as Wi-Fi 6 and Ethernet connectivity for low-latency online gaming. Unfortunately, its 144Hz display has a slow response time causing noticeable ghosting, and it doesn't support variable refresh rate to reduce screen tearing."
