The LG Gram 17 is very good for engineering and design, while the Gateway 14.1" is poor.
The Gateway 14.1" has limited RAM and a basic Intel Celeron processor with basic graphics, making it poorly equipped for the demands of engineering and design software, whereas the LG Gram 17 offers ample RAM, a more powerful Intel i7 processor with better integrated graphics, and a higher resolution display, providing a much more capable platform for such tasks. "The Gateway Ultra Slim 14" is surprisingly quiet with long battery life. The inexpensive Gateway excels at maximizing performance per dollar with lots of RAM and storage, super-quiet fan, and a long battery life. It can even house up to two M.2 SSDs which we weren't expecting from such a cheap system. However, the iffy reliability of the keyboard and USB-C port on our test unit means users should double-check for these potential issues immediately after purchasing."
"The LG Gram 17 is a light office laptop with a large display and great battery life. The newest incarnation of the Gram 17 can be classified as a model update. LG uses the predecessor's compact, light magnesium case along with an identical port configuration (including 2x Thunderbolt 4) and keyboard. Changes can be found in the hardware. With the Gram 17 (2022), LG offers a light (approx. 1,350 g), mobile work device - and finally with a matte display."
