The Dell Inspiron 16 5635, priced higher, offers larger storage, more RAM, and a powerful AMD Ryzen processor suitable for intensive tasks like engineering work, 3D rendering, or machine learning. Its larger 16-inch display with higher resolution is better for multitasking and visual clarity but makes the laptop less portable than the Gateway due to its greater size and weight. Meanwhile, the Gateway 14.1", more affordable, has modest storage and basic Intel Celeron performance suitable for everyday tasks like web browsing and document editing, and its smaller screen and lighter weight enhance portability. The Dell Inspiron 16 5635 is very good for general use, while the Gateway 14.1" is poor.
The Dell Inspiron 16 5635 excels in general use due to its powerful AMD Ryzen 7 CPU, expansive RAM, high-quality screen with better resolution, and robust construction, but it's slightly heavier and has less portability. In contrast, the Gateway 14.1" falls short with a less capable Intel Celeron processor, minimal RAM and storage, a lower-quality screen, and lower overall build quality, making it less suitable for a range of tasks despite being lighter and potentially more portable.

The Dell Inspiron 16 5635 is only fair for gaming and AI, while the Gateway 14.1" is poor.
The Dell Inspiron 16 5635 provides a fair gaming experience primarily due to its AMD Ryzen 7 7730U Vega 8 graphics, while the Gateway 14.1" falls short for gaming, significantly because it sports the notably less powerful Intel UHD Graphics 600. While both laptops have a refresh rate of 60Hz, it's the difference in GPU power that majorly sets them apart in terms of gaming and 3D capabilities.

The Dell Inspiron 16 5635 is good for engineering and design, while the Gateway 14.1" is poor.
The Dell Inspiron 16 5635 offers more power for engineering and design with its significantly better CPU, ample RAM, and superior GPU, along with a high-quality screen that's beneficial for detailed work; in contrast, the Gateway 14.1" has a lower-end CPU, less RAM, and a weaker GPU, which make it less suited for demanding engineering applications and less optimal for design tasks where screen quality is important. Additionally, while the Gateway is more portable due to its smaller size and weight, the tradeoff is a steep drop in performance and screen real estate, which are crucial for engineering and design work.

The Dell Inspiron 16 5635 has a better screen than the Gateway 14.1" for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, software development, and content creation.
The Dell Inspiron 16 5635 and the Gateway 14.1" both have display characteristics that provide adequate sharpness and visibility for everyday tasks, but they may not be particularly vibrant or exceptionally bright, affecting their suitability for more demanding general use. They lack the wide color gamuts necessary to accurately represent colors in professional engineering and design work, where precise color reproduction is critical. For gaming and 3D applications where smooth motion is key, both laptops fall short as their refresh rates are not high enough, and their resolutions and panel types do not meet the high standards required for optimal gaming and 3D rendering experiences.

"Compared to the previous year’s Inspiron, Dell upgraded the screen aspect ratio on this generation, but also transitioned to a more minimalistic centered keyboard flanked by up-firing speakers. The 16-inch screen is huge plus and I really appreciate the extra real estate without sacrificing the footprint much. This year’s model is a little larger than last, though, as the former model was already very small for a 15 incher."
"The Gateway Ultra Slim 14" is surprisingly quiet with long battery life. The inexpensive Gateway excels at maximizing performance per dollar with lots of RAM and storage, super-quiet fan, and a long battery life. It can even house up to two M.2 SSDs which we weren't expecting from such a cheap system. However, the iffy reliability of the keyboard and USB-C port on our test unit means users should double-check for these potential issues immediately after purchasing."
