Based on the comparison, if you prioritize the highest performance for 3D rendering, machine learning, gaming, or engineering tasks, and don't mind spending more and dealing with added weight, the Dell Alienware X17 R2 is a strong choice. However, it offers less battery life and portability. In contrast, the Lenovo Legion 5i Pro is more affordable, lighter, and offers slightly better battery life, making it a more suitable option for general use and portability despite having lower performance capabilities in comparison. Both laptops have sufficient screen quality and build for gaming and professional work, but preferences for screen size and keyboard quality could influence your decision as the Alienware has a larger screen and higher keyboard quality assessment. NotebookCheck

Allen Ngo | May 2022
"The Alienware x17 R2 recognizes targets a significantly higher TGP of 175 W for a roughly 30 percent performance boost over laptops running on the ~100 W GeForce RTX 3080 Ti like the Razer Blade 15 or Gigabyte Aero YE5. Similar results can be found through the CPU as well. This single aspect of the Alienware is perhaps the biggest differentiating factor between it and other ultrathin gaming laptops. Of course, the "performance at all cost" approach comes with drawbacks. Power consumption in particular is through the roof and battery life suffers because of it even when on the lowest performance settings."

PCMag

Brian Westover | August 2023
"The midpriced Lenovo Legion Pro 5i Gen 8 follows some of our favorite gaming machines, including last year's model and the higher-end Legion Pro 7i Gen 8 tested earlier this year. But pedigree doesn't count for much in the computer world, and gaming laptops require a certain level of power and graphics performance to justify their prices. The Pro 5i Gen 8 just doesn't do that, offering middling CPU and GPU performance rather than the sort of muscle that would make it a great value."
