The Dell Alienware x14 R1 is good for gaming and AI, while the Lenovo IdeaPad 1 15" is only fair.
The Dell Alienware x14 R1 excels in gaming and 3D applications due to its powerful Nvidia RTX 3060 GPU and high screen refresh rate of 144Hz, which provides smoother visuals and can take advantage of the GPU's performance capabilities. In comparison, the Lenovo IdeaPad 1 15" has a less capable AMD Ryzen 7 5700U Vega 8 GPU and a standard 60Hz screen refresh rate, which means it can handle some gaming and 3D tasks but won't be as smooth or detailed as the Alienware.

The Dell Alienware x14 R1 is very good for engineering and design, while the Lenovo IdeaPad 1 15" is only fair.
The Dell Alienware x14 R1, equipped with an Intel i7 processor, 16GB RAM, a high-performance Nvidia RTX GPU and superior screen quality offers robust performance for engineering and design work. In contrast, while the Lenovo IdeaPad 1 15" with an AMD Ryzen 7 processor and integrated Vega 8 graphics also provides sufficient capability, its lower RAM, and comparatively basic GPU make it less suitable for more demanding engineering tasks.

The Dell Alienware x14 R1 has a better screen than the Lenovo IdeaPad 1 15" for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, software development, and content creation.
The Dell Alienware x14 R1's screen boasts higher resolution and brightness, enhancing visibility and clarity for general tasks and detailed engineering work, but its lower refresh rate makes it less ideal for smooth gaming and 3D applications. The Lenovo IdeaPad 1 15" offers a balanced display that is sufficient for everyday use and technical tasks, although it doesn't excel in any particular area, and it shares similar shortcomings in gaming due to a standard refresh rate. Neither laptop hits the mark for specialized 3D tasks where fluid motion and rapid on-screen changes are crucial, as both lack the high refresh rate that serious gaming or intensive 3D modeling would demand.

The Lenovo IdeaPad 1 15", on the other hand, offers a good balance with a capable CPU and sufficient RAM for everyday tasks, a touchscreen, and superior battery life, but it is slightly less portable and has a lower-quality screen and speakers, making it less ideal for more demanding multimedia use.

How the Dell Alienware x14 R1 and the Lenovo IdeaPad 1 15" compare to other laptops
"The Alienware X14 series is thinner, but also slower than the competition. With the X series, you get plenty of modern technology: Intel Alder Lake CPUs, GeForce RTX 3000 GPUs, Thunderbolt 4, PCIe 4.0, Wi-Fi 6E, G-Sync, and Advanced Optimus. However, the slim design has some drawbacks, just like its larger siblings. The shifted hinge position results in a very deep device with a large footprint compared to the competition."
"The Lenovo IdeaPad 1 15" is affordable and pretty efficient. At the end of the day, the Lenovo IdeaPad 1 (15″, 2023) is one of the better affordable laptops money can buy right now. It has a decent performance, albeit coming from a CPU that is based on old architecture. Playing low-intensity games is possible but at low to medium settings. We are really happy with the cooling setup, but the main event here is the battery life. We got 9 hours of either Web browsing or video playback, which is a great result. Especially if you compare this device with the ASUS E410."
