If price is a major concern and you need a laptop for everyday tasks and casual gaming, the HP Victus 15 may be the better choice as it offers value for basic functionality at a lower cost. However, if you require a laptop for high-performance gaming, 3D modeling, or intensive engineering software, the Dell Alienware m18 R1, while more expensive, provides superior performance that could justify the additional expense. It also typically comes with higher quality components and features that could enhance your user experience, though it may be bulkier and have shorter battery life than more budget-friendly options like the HP Victus 15. The Dell Alienware m18 R1 has a better screen than the HP Victus 15 for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, software development, and content creation.
The Dell Alienware m18 R1 offers a high-resolution display with excellent color accuracy, making it suitable for engineering and design tasks, but its lower refresh rate may not be ideal for gaming and 3D applications where smooth motion is crucial. The HP Victus 15 provides a good balance of resolution and brightness for everyday tasks, but its limited color gamut makes it less optimal for professional design work. For gaming and 3D, both laptops may fall short due to their refresh rates not meeting the high standards typically desired for fast-paced, visually demanding content.

"Dell's Alienware m18 delivers on its promises: This is a large, powerful gaming laptop with the premium flair and feel you expect from an expensive purchase. The drawbacks are really the price and battery life, which in context are reasonable. (We'd also like to see more ports on the laptop's sides.) This price tier exists for deep-pocketed enthusiasts, and if you’re considering anything in this range, the m18 isn’t an outlier. For the majority of shoppers, of course, all of these mighty 18-inch systems are likely too expensive."
Olivier Martin, Ryan Lim, and Yannick Khong | March 2023
"The HP Victus 15 is great for gaming. It's available with Intel 12th Gen. CPUs and NVIDIA discrete graphics, which are powerful enough to provide a smooth gaming experience in demanding AAA titles at 1080p. It has a nice keyboard and a fast SSD, as well as Wi-Fi 6 and Ethernet connectivity for low-latency online gaming. Unfortunately, its 144Hz display has a slow response time causing noticeable ghosting, and it doesn't support variable refresh rate to reduce screen tearing."
