If your priority is high performance for tasks like 3D modeling, machine learning, or gaming, the ASUS Zenbook Pro 17, despite its higher cost, would be a better choice. On the other hand, if you prefer something more affordable and portable for general use like browsing and office applications, the Gateway 14.1" would suit your needs. Keep in mind, though, that the larger screen and typically more powerful components of the ASUS will likely lead to shorter battery life compared to the Gateway, which should offer a balance of efficiency and portability at a lower price point. The ASUS Zenbook Pro 17 is only fair for gaming and AI, while the Gateway 14.1" is poor.
The ASUS Zenbook Pro 17 is suitable for gaming and 3D tasks as it has an Nvidia RTX 3050 graphics card, which is powerful for such use, while the Gateway 14.1" with its Intel UHD Graphics 600 is significantly less capable, affecting its performance in these areas. Both laptops have similar screen refresh rates, but the GPU plays a much more vital role in gaming and 3D performance, hence impacting the Gateway's ability to handle such tasks well.

The ASUS Zenbook Pro 17 has a better screen than the Gateway 14.1" for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, software development, and content creation.
The ASUS Zenbook Pro 17 offers a high-resolution display that is bright and clear, making it suitable for everyday tasks and detailed engineering work where color accuracy is key. However, its screen may not have the high refresh rate desired for smooth gameplay and fast-moving 3D visuals, which gamers prioritize. On the other hand, the Gateway 14.1" provides a fair balance of screen quality suitable for both general use and technical tasks, but like the ASUS, it falls short for gaming and 3D applications due to its limited refresh rate.

"The Gateway Ultra Slim 14" is surprisingly quiet with long battery life. The inexpensive Gateway excels at maximizing performance per dollar with lots of RAM and storage, super-quiet fan, and a long battery life. It can even house up to two M.2 SSDs which we weren't expecting from such a cheap system. However, the iffy reliability of the keyboard and USB-C port on our test unit means users should double-check for these potential issues immediately after purchasing."
