The ASUS Zenbook 14X offers a balance between portability and performance, with its lightweight build and high-resolution OLED display well-suited for general use and visual tasks. However, it's more expensive than the HP 17" Laptop, which is heavier but comes at a lower cost. If you prioritize a larger screen and are working with a tighter budget, the HP might be a compelling choice. For intensive tasks like 3D modeling, machine learning, or engineering, neither laptop is designed for high-end processing, but the ASUS could be more capable due to its dedicated graphics card. When considering battery life and portability, the ASUS leads with a more compact form factor, while the HP might be less convenient to carry around but will provide a bigger screen for multitasking. Both serve well for general purposes, but the ASUS leans towards users who favor better visuals and mobility, and the HP can appeal to those in need of a larger, more affordable laptop for everyday tasks. The ASUS Zenbook 14X is good for engineering and design, while the HP 17" Laptop is only fair.
The ASUS Zenbook 14X is suitable for engineering and design due to its high-performance Intel i7 CPU and dedicated Nvidia MX550 GPU that support resource-intensive applications, complemented by its high-quality OLED screen. In contrast, the HP 17" Laptop's use of an integrated AMD Vega 8 GPU suggests more modest graphical capabilities, but its larger IPS screen offers a bigger workspace, which may be beneficial for design tasks, albeit with lower color accuracy and contrast compared to the ASUS.

The ASUS Zenbook 14X has a better screen than the HP 17" Laptop for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, software development, and content creation.
The ASUS Zenbook 14X boasts a high-resolution display with impressive brightness and panel quality, making it excellent for general use and detailed engineering work where color accuracy matters. However, for gaming and 3D, its screen may fall short due to a lower refresh rate, which is crucial for smooth visuals in fast-paced scenarios. The HP 17" Laptop, with a fair screen, provides adequate resolution and brightness for daily tasks and sufficient color representation for engineering, but like the ASUS, it lacks the high refresh rate needed for optimal gaming and 3D rendering experiences.

How the ASUS Zenbook 14X and the HP 17" Laptop compare to other laptops
"With the Zenbook 14X, Asus has a 14-incher in its range that is - mostly - a joy to use. First, there is the colorful OLED panel with 3K resolution that displays the sRGB and DCI-P3 color spaces. The Zenbook is also at the forefront in terms of workmanship, input devices and connections with 2x Thunderbolt 4 ports and a generous keyboard layout. A pleasure to use, the Zenbook 14X is a solid, very well-built subnotebook that sits well on the table. A runtime of five hours, however, is below average for a high-end subnotebook nowadays. The OLED screensaver causes increased power consumption when in idle mode."
"As far as starter laptops go, the HP Laptop 17 is a sound investment. Sure, it might not be the lightest of options, but what you get for the price is a well-rounded machine that fits multiple niches. Whether it be office duties that require you to multi-task between multiple programs, or study tasks in which you’ll spend hours browsing online, this laptop does it all. Plus, when it's time to unwind, you can watch your favorite shows or movies on a super-wide display. What's best of all is that you can do all this for about half a day on a single charge."
