If your primary goal is everyday tasks like browsing, office applications, and media consumption, then opting for the ASUS Vivobook 17 can save you money while meeting your needs with its larger screen. On the other hand, the Lenovo Legion 5 15" offers superior performance for gaming, 3D applications, and potentially demanding engineering software, but comes at a higher cost. Keep in mind that the Legion is also built with gaming in mind, which means it might have a shorter battery life but better graphics capabilities. The Vivobook is lighter and offers more portability, whereas the Legion is heavier and more suited to static use. Consider what you'll use your laptop for the most: if it's for performance-intensive tasks, the Legion may be worth the investment, but if not, the Vivobook could be a more economical and practical choice. The Lenovo Legion 5 15" is very good for engineering and design, while the ASUS Vivobook 17 is only fair.
The ASUS Vivobook 17 is equipped with a basic Intel i3 processor and integrated graphics, which may struggle with demanding engineering applications, while the Lenovo Legion 5 15" features a more powerful AMD Ryzen 7 processor and a dedicated Nvidia RTX 4060 GPU, offering robust performance for complex design tasks. Additionally, the Lenovo has a higher resolution screen which benefits detailed work, but it is less portable and potentially has a louder operating noise compared to the lighter ASUS, which might be easier to carry around.

The Lenovo Legion 5 15" has a better screen than the ASUS Vivobook 17 for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, content creation, and software development.
The ASUS Vivobook 17, with its fair screen quality for general use, may not offer the finest resolution or brightness, which can affect the clarity and visibility of content on the screen. For engineering and design, its fair screen quality suggests it may not cover a wide range of colors, making it less ideal for tasks requiring precise color accuracy such as photo editing or CAD work. On the other hand, the Lenovo Legion 5 15" with very good screen quality for general use likely offers a sharper image and better brightness, but for gaming and 3D, the poor refresh rate of both laptops means less fluid visuals which can detract from fast-paced action or detailed animations.

How the ASUS Vivobook 17 and the Lenovo Legion 5 15" compare to other laptops
"The ASUS Vivobook 17 is an affordable 17-inch laptop with passive cooling. On one hand, you get a really quiet and cool work device with a good system performance, many connections, good maintenance options, speakers acceptable for multimedia enjoyment, and a sharp and clear matte FHD IPS display with the Asus VivoBook 17 (F712JA). On the other hand, the USB-C port lacks Power Delivery and DisplayPort, and the display, a higher brightness and better color space coverage."
"The Lenovo Legion 5 15 is an affordable gaming laptop with a lot of power. The new AMD processor Ryzen 7 5800H offers plenty of performance and it is also very efficient. The combination with the fast 130W version of the GeForce RTX 3060 ensures high gaming performance. We also like the fast 165 Hz display with the 1080p resolution. The automatic graphics switching causes some problems with stutters, which are very annoying. If you do not need long battery runtimes, you should definitely deactivate the hybrid graphics mode in Lenovo's Vantage app. The Legion 5 15 is never silent."
