The ASUS Vivobook 17 is a solid choice if you're looking for an affordable laptop for general use; its large 17.3-inch screen is ideal for multitasking, though it might be less portable than smaller models. However, if you lean towards gaming or 3D applications, the HP Victus 15, despite being somewhat more expensive, offers more powerful components including a dedicated graphics card and a faster processor, which would make it more suitable for those tasks. The Victus also has a higher refresh rate display, beneficial for gaming. Always consider the balance between cost and the specific needs you have from the laptop, such as performance or portability. The HP Victus 15 has a better screen than the ASUS Vivobook 17 for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, and content creation.
If you prioritize a vivid display for tasks like web browsing or document editing, the HP Victus 15's superior brightness and resolution enhance its screen quality for general use compared to the ASUS Vivobook 17. When working in engineering and design where color accuracy is key, the ASUS may fall short as it doesn't offer as robust color gamuts as desired, an area where the HP also may not fully satisfy professional needs but has a slight edge. And if gaming or working with 3D applications is your focus, both laptops offer less ideal experiences due to their lower refresh rates, although for less intensive tasks, they can be serviceable.

How the ASUS Vivobook 17 and the HP Victus 15 compare to other laptops
"The ASUS Vivobook 17 is an affordable 17-inch laptop with passive cooling. On one hand, you get a really quiet and cool work device with a good system performance, many connections, good maintenance options, speakers acceptable for multimedia enjoyment, and a sharp and clear matte FHD IPS display with the Asus VivoBook 17 (F712JA). On the other hand, the USB-C port lacks Power Delivery and DisplayPort, and the display, a higher brightness and better color space coverage."
Olivier Martin, Ryan Lim, and Yannick Khong | March 2023
"The HP Victus 15 is great for gaming. It's available with Intel 12th Gen. CPUs and NVIDIA discrete graphics, which are powerful enough to provide a smooth gaming experience in demanding AAA titles at 1080p. It has a nice keyboard and a fast SSD, as well as Wi-Fi 6 and Ethernet connectivity for low-latency online gaming. Unfortunately, its 144Hz display has a slow response time causing noticeable ghosting, and it doesn't support variable refresh rate to reduce screen tearing."
