For a balance of performance and portability with a focus on engineering tasks, the ASUS Vivobook 16X is a strong contender. It offers a high-performance Intel i7 processor and a dedicated Nvidia RTX 4060 GPU, which are excellent for demanding applications. The larger 16-inch screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 and a 16:10 aspect ratio provides more workspace, and the 120Hz refresh rate enhances visual fluidity. Although it's slightly heavier and thicker than the Samsung, it still maintains good portability. The ASUS also has a better battery life for typical usage, which is beneficial for those who need to work on the go. On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy Book4 Edge 14 is a more compact and premium device with an eye-catching 2-in-1 design, offering the versatility of a tablet. Its OLED display boasts a higher resolution of 2880 x 1800, delivering vibrant colors and deep blacks, which is great for media consumption and general use. The Samsung also has a touchscreen, which can be very useful for certain applications and when using the device as a tablet. However, its Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite X1E80 processor and Adreno 750 GPU may not match the raw performance of the ASUS for intensive engineering or gaming tasks. Additionally, the Samsung has a lower portability score and a higher price point, which might not be ideal if performance and budget are your primary concerns. Ultimately, if you prioritize performance for tasks like 3D rendering, machine learning, or engineering software, and you're looking for a more cost-effective option with a larger screen, the ASUS Vivobook 16X is the better choice. If you value a premium, versatile design with an exceptional display for general use and are willing to pay a bit more for those features, the Samsung Galaxy Book4 Edge 14 would be the way to go. Kok Kee | February 2023
"I think the ASUS Vivobook 16X is fantastic. Great performance, decent battery life, good keyboard and trackpad, and a massive screen – just that the screen quality itself is kinda subpar. If you’re okay with the screen, then I think this is an okay laptop. However, I’d like to see a price drop."
