If you require more storage and memory, the ASUS Vivobook 16 with its larger SSD and RAM would be the better option. However, if the price is a priority, the Lenovo IdeaPad 1 15" typically costs a bit more but offers a touchscreen display which the ASUS doesn't have. Both have similar battery capacity and processors, so your choice may depend on the specific features you prioritize, such as a larger screen and better resolution on the ASUS versus the Lenovo's touchscreen capability. The ASUS Vivobook 16 and the Lenovo IdeaPad 1 15" have similar screen quality.
When assessing laptops for general use, the Vivobook 16 and IdeaPad 1 both offer screens that meet the basic needs with adequate resolution and brightness, but without the superior panel types that provide exceptional clarity and color. For engineering and design tasks, their screens may not cover the wider color gamuts professionals seek, such as DCI-P3 and Adobe RGB, leading to less accurate color representation. As for gaming and 3D applications, both laptops lack the high refresh rates desired for smooth motion, although they provide resolutions and panel types that are acceptable but not ideal for such visually intensive tasks.

The ASUS Vivobook 16 with its larger and sharper screen, higher RAM, and powerful CPU offers enhanced multitasking capabilities and is suited for heavier workloads, but is slightly less portable and has a shorter battery life compared to the Lenovo IdeaPad 1, which though offers a touch screen and longer battery life, compromises on screen size, RAM, and storage making it more suitable for lighter tasks and increased mobility.

The ASUS Vivobook 16 and Lenovo IdeaPad 1 15" are both only fair for gaming and AI.
The ASUS Vivobook 16 and the Lenovo IdeaPad 1 15" are both considered fair for gaming and 3D because they share similar integrated graphics, the Vega 8, which performs moderately for such tasks but isn't as powerful as dedicated gaming GPUs. Additionally, both laptops have a standard screen refresh rate, which is suitable for casual gaming but doesn't match the higher refresh rates preferred for competitive gaming scenarios.

Although they have very similar scores, PerfectRec considers ASUS Vivobook 16 to be good for engineering and design, while the Lenovo IdeaPad 1 15" is only fair.
The ASUS Vivobook 16's superior CPU, double the storage space, better screen quality with a higher resolution and aspect ratio, and more RAM make it better suited for engineering and design tasks than the Lenovo IdeaPad 1 15", which, while lighter and with a longer battery life, offers a lower resolution touchscreen and less RAM, which could impact its performance in demanding applications.

How the ASUS Vivobook 16 and the Lenovo IdeaPad 1 15" compare to other laptops
Olivier Martin, Ryan Lim, Yannick Khong | May 2023
"The ASUS Vivobook 16 M1605 (2023) is a budget Windows laptop. It's available with various AMD Ryzen 5000 and 7000 U-series CPUs and integrated graphics. You can only get 8GB of RAM; however, there's an empty SO-DIMM slot if you want to upgrade it. It has an FHD+ (1920 x 1200) 16:10 IPS display, a full-size keyboard with a Numpad, a 720p webcam, and Wi-Fi 6E wireless connectivity. Ports include three USB-As, one USB-C, an HDMI, and a headphone jack. The USB-C supports charging but no video output."
"The Lenovo IdeaPad 1 15" is affordable and pretty efficient. At the end of the day, the Lenovo IdeaPad 1 (15″, 2023) is one of the better affordable laptops money can buy right now. It has a decent performance, albeit coming from a CPU that is based on old architecture. Playing low-intensity games is possible but at low to medium settings. We are really happy with the cooling setup, but the main event here is the battery life. We got 9 hours of either Web browsing or video playback, which is a great result. Especially if you compare this device with the ASUS E410."
