The ASUS TUF Gaming F15, while at a midrange price, excels in performance for engineering tasks, 3D modeling, machine learning, and gaming due to higher-end components, but is less portable owing to a heavier build and typically shorter battery life. In contrast, the Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 2 is more affordable, offers good performance for general use, boasts a lighter and more portable design, and longer battery life, but it may not handle intensive tasks as efficiently as the ASUS TUF Gaming F15. The ASUS TUF Gaming F15 is very good for engineering and design, while the Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 2 is only fair.
The ASUS TUF Gaming F15 excels in engineering and design use because it has a more powerful Intel i7 processor, twice the RAM, and a dedicated Nvidia RTX GPU, all of which are critical for resource-intensive tasks; plus, it offers a high-quality screen though it's less portable and noisier under load. In contrast, the Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 2, with its less powerful i5 processor and integrated GPU, along with only half the RAM, is suitable for lighter design tasks, and it gains an advantage in portability and lower operating noise, making it a fair choice for casual design work where convenience is a priority.

The ASUS TUF Gaming F15 has a better screen than the Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 2 for gaming and AI, software development, and content creation, while the Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 2 has a better screen for general use, and engineering and design.
In general use, both laptops offer sufficient resolution and brightness for everyday tasks like browsing and video watching, making them suitable choices. For engineering and design work, the Surface Laptop Go 2 stands out with superior color accuracy and wider color gamuts, essential for precise visuals and graphics work. However, neither laptop is ideal for 3D work or gaming due to low refresh rates, which can result in less smooth visuals and slower response times in these scenarios.

How the ASUS TUF Gaming F15 and the Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 2 compare to other laptops
"Aside from all the chassis updates, the new TUF Gaming is most notable for its much higher TGP target of 140 W compared to only 95 W on the previous generation. PC makers everywhere are using the same GeForce GPUs this year since Nvidia has yet to launch the successor to the mobile RTX 3000 series. The more demanding processors of the new TUF Gaming has directly impacted battery life and the size of the AC adapter. Don't expect runtimes to be longer than on the previous generation under most conditions and be prepared to carry around an even larger AC adapter than before."
"The Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 2 review is a compact companion with old hardware. The Surface Laptop Go 2 shows some weaknesses. Microsoft didn't really develop the second generation of the Surface Laptop Go 2 any further but has only equipped it with a slightly more powerful Core i5 processor. However, the performance still remains at a fairly low level overall, but for many users, it definitely should still be sufficient for everyday tasks."
