The ASUS ROG Strix G17 is more suitable for intensive gaming and might be somewhat less expensive, but it is larger, heavier, and less portable than the Lenovo ThinkPad Z16. If gaming and performance for 3D tasks are your priority and you can handle a heavier device, the ASUS could be a great choice; if you value screen quality, portability, and a premium business laptop design, the Lenovo ThinkPad Z16 would be more fitting. The Lenovo ThinkPad Z16 is very good for general use, while the ASUS ROG Strix G17 is good.
The Lenovo ThinkPad Z16 stands out for general use due to its superior OLED screen quality and dual-purpose usability enhanced by a touchscreen, along with better portability owing to its lighter weight and longer battery life; whereas the ASUS ROG Strix G17 offers exceptional performance given its high-end CPU and ample RAM but is less portable and has a shorter battery life, being better suited for those prioritizing gaming or performance over mobility and battery duration. Both laptops have quality keyboards and ample storage; however, the ThinkPad Z16 has the advantage in speaker and operating noise, which contributes to a more pleasant general-use experience.

The ASUS ROG Strix G17 is very good for gaming and AI, while the Lenovo ThinkPad Z16 is only fair.
The ASUS ROG Strix G17 stands out in gaming and 3D tasks primarily due to its higher screen refresh rate and powerful Nvidia RTX GPU, which are crucial for smooth visuals and graphic performance. Comparatively, the Lenovo ThinkPad Z16, though suitable for gaming and 3D tasks with its capable AMD RX GPU and high-quality OLED screen, offers a lower refresh rate which may not be as optimal for the fastest-paced games.

The ASUS ROG Strix G17 has a better screen than the Lenovo ThinkPad Z16 for gaming and AI, while the Lenovo ThinkPad Z16 has a better screen for general use, engineering and design, content creation, and software development.
The ASUS ROG Strix G17 offers a display with adequate resolution and brightness suitable for everyday tasks and crisp image quality important for engineering software; however, its refresh rate may not be high enough for the smooth visuals required in fast-paced gaming and 3D applications. The Lenovo ThinkPad Z16 has a high-quality display with strong color reproduction, making it excellent for precise engineering and design work where color accuracy is crucial, but similarly lacks the high refresh rate gamers seek for fluid motion. Both laptops have screen qualities tailored for professional and general use, but gamers and 3D designers may find the lower refresh rates less than optimal for their specific needs.

On the other hand, the Lenovo ThinkPad Z16 offers a high-resolution OLED touchscreen and a quieter operational noise, with a lighter build that improves portability, albeit with a slightly less powerful GPU, making it a more balanced choice for on-the-go professionals who also prioritize screen quality and quieter working environments.

How the ASUS ROG Strix G17 and the Lenovo ThinkPad Z16 compare to other laptops
"The Asus ROG Strix G17 is an attractive but unbalanced gaming laptop. Its potent AMD Ryzen 9 processor excels in 1080p gaming, but playing at 1440p leaves the middling GeForce RTX 4060 GPU shouldering most of the burden. The display is exceptionally colorful, which is handy for content creators, but since this is a gaming laptop it would be better served with improved HDR capabilities. If battery life isn't a priority, the Strix G17 could serve as a designer by day and a gamer by night."
"Lenovo’s ThinkPad Z16 tries has some success in its effort to tweak the ThinkPad formula. The laptop is attractive, yet still tame, and material quality is on par with the best Windows competition. I also like the smooth, responsive haptic touchpad and the wide range of modern connectivity. Yet the Z16 doesn’t fix ThinkPad’s typical weakness: value. Starting around $1,550, and more typically near $1,700, the Z16 finds itself facing alternatives that have better performance or an improved display for the same price, or less."
