If you're looking for a laptop with high performance for gaming or demanding software tasks, the Asus ROG Strix G17, equipped with more advanced graphics and a powerful processor, could be a great choice, though it's less portable given its larger size and heft. Its cost is noticeably higher, which aligns with its gaming orientation and high-end internals. On the other hand, the Dell Latitude 14 7490 is more budget-friendly and lightweight, making it suitable for general use and business applications, and is a good option if you prioritize portability and battery life over raw performance. PCMag

Mark Knapp | October 2023
"The Asus ROG Strix G17 is an attractive but unbalanced gaming laptop. Its potent AMD Ryzen 9 processor excels in 1080p gaming, but playing at 1440p leaves the middling GeForce RTX 4060 GPU shouldering most of the burden. The display is exceptionally colorful, which is handy for content creators, but since this is a gaming laptop it would be better served with improved HDR capabilities. If battery life isn't a priority, the Strix G17 could serve as a designer by day and a gamer by night."

Henry T. Casey | April 2018
"The Dell Latitude 7490's got the speed you need (and then some), a keyboard that's comfortable enough for writing all day long and a battery that supports a full 8-hour workday. If only the display were brighter and it managed heat better. If you need every minute of battery life you can get, the extended-battery version of the Lenovo ThinkPad T480 lasts 8 hours longer than the Latitude 7490, but its display is much less colorful."
