The ASUS ROG Strix G17 offers superior performance for 3D rendering, machine learning, and other intensive tasks thanks to its advanced processor and dedicated graphics card, making it suitable for gaming and engineering work, but it comes with a higher price tag and less portability due to its size and weight. In contrast, the ASUS Vivobook 16 is more affordable and portable with good battery life, suitable for general use and has a solid build, but it lacks the high performance of the G17, making it less ideal for gaming and high-demand applications. The ASUS ROG Strix G17 has a better screen than the ASUS Vivobook 16 for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, software development, and content creation.
The ASUS ROG Strix G17 likely offers a high-resolution display with vibrant colors and good brightness levels, making it ideal for general use and detailed engineering tasks that require accurate color representation. However, its poor screen quality for gaming could be due to a lower refresh rate, which is crucial for fast-paced visuals. How the ASUS ROG Strix G17 and the ASUS Vivobook 16 compare to other laptops
"The Asus ROG Strix G17 is an attractive but unbalanced gaming laptop. Its potent AMD Ryzen 9 processor excels in 1080p gaming, but playing at 1440p leaves the middling GeForce RTX 4060 GPU shouldering most of the burden. The display is exceptionally colorful, which is handy for content creators, but since this is a gaming laptop it would be better served with improved HDR capabilities. If battery life isn't a priority, the Strix G17 could serve as a designer by day and a gamer by night."
Olivier Martin, Ryan Lim, Yannick Khong | May 2023
"The ASUS Vivobook 16 M1605 (2023) is a budget Windows laptop. It's available with various AMD Ryzen 5000 and 7000 U-series CPUs and integrated graphics. You can only get 8GB of RAM; however, there's an empty SO-DIMM slot if you want to upgrade it. It has an FHD+ (1920 x 1200) 16:10 IPS display, a full-size keyboard with a Numpad, a 720p webcam, and Wi-Fi 6E wireless connectivity. Ports include three USB-As, one USB-C, an HDMI, and a headphone jack. The USB-C supports charging but no video output."
