If you prioritize a larger screen for immersive gaming and multitasking, the ASUS ROG Strix G17 might suit you well despite its size making it less portable. In contrast, the ASUS ROG Strix G16 (2024) is generally more expensive, but the higher cost could be justified by newer technology or features not present in the G17. When considering performance for 3D, machine learning, gaming or engineering, newer models may offer slight improvements, but always balance it against the price increase and whether these enhancements are crucial for your tasks. Battery life is crucial for working on the go, and typically, newer models aim to improve on this, so if long battery life and the benefits of the latest tech outweigh the cost, the G16 (2024) could be the better option. How the ASUS ROG Strix G16 (2024) and the ASUS ROG Strix G17 compare to other laptops
"With the mobile Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080, the Asus ROG Stix G16 hits the sweet spot between performance and cooling. The G16 also does not have to shy away from direct comparison with its supposedly stronger family member, the ROG Strix Scar 18 with its RTX 4090, as most benchmarks of the two laptops are very close to each other. Moreover, the G16 should be significantly cheaper. Depending on the supplier, the price difference here could be almost US$ 2,000. In the 2023 model series, Asus has significantly leveled out the differences between the two high-end lines."
"The Asus ROG Strix G17 is an attractive but unbalanced gaming laptop. Its potent AMD Ryzen 9 processor excels in 1080p gaming, but playing at 1440p leaves the middling GeForce RTX 4060 GPU shouldering most of the burden. The display is exceptionally colorful, which is handy for content creators, but since this is a gaming laptop it would be better served with improved HDR capabilities. If battery life isn't a priority, the Strix G17 could serve as a designer by day and a gamer by night."
