The Apple MacBook Air (2020) is a great choice for those who prioritize portability, battery life, and a high-quality display with accurate colors, making it ideal for general use and light engineering tasks. Its silent operation and best-in-class build quality add to its appeal for everyday use. However, it may not satisfy the needs of intensive gamers or those requiring hardware ray tracing and DLSS for advanced 3D rendering or machine learning tasks.
On the other hand, the Lenovo Legion Pro 5i (2024) is designed with performance in mind, offering a powerful Intel i7 processor and an Nvidia RTX 4070 GPU, which are excellent for gaming, 3D rendering, and machine learning. It also has a high refresh rate screen, suitable for fast-motion content. While it's less portable and has a shorter battery life compared to the MacBook Air, it's a strong contender for those who need a machine capable of handling demanding tasks and intend to keep it plugged in more often than not. How the Apple MacBook Air (2020) and the Lenovo Legion Pro 5i (2024) compare to other laptops
"The Apple MacBook Air M2 Entry is a very good, but too expensive daily MacBook. The new MacBook Air M2 is undoubtedly once again a very good mobile companion, but we are still a little bit disappointed on a very high level, which is definitely connected with the increased price point. The new chassis is extremely slim and the front edge is no problem during typing, but the bezels are pretty wide for a modern device and in addition with the vertical space required for the notch, the new Air has larger footprint than some Windows rivals."
"The midpriced Lenovo Legion Pro 5i Gen 8 follows some of our favorite gaming machines, including last year's model and the higher-end Legion Pro 7i Gen 8 tested earlier this year. But pedigree doesn't count for much in the computer world, and gaming laptops require a certain level of power and graphics performance to justify their prices. The Pro 5i Gen 8 just doesn't do that, offering middling CPU and GPU performance rather than the sort of muscle that would make it a great value."
