The Apple MacBook Air is typically lighter and slimmer, making it very portable and it doesn't have a fan, which means it operates silently. Its screen has a higher resolution, which might be preferred for tasks like photo editing, and it covers a broader range of colors, so it renders images more vibrantly. The MacBook Air also generally offers longer battery life, which can be useful if you need to work on the go. On the other hand, the Dell Latitude has a larger screen and includes additional ports for connecting devices, such as an Ethernet port for wired internet and an HDMI port to easily connect to monitors or projectors without an adapter. The Dell also supports expandable RAM and storage, providing flexibility if you need to upgrade in the future. The operating system is another consideration; the MacBook Air runs on MacOS while the Dell Latitude comes with Windows 11 Pro, so your choice might depend on which ecosystem you're more comfortable with or what software you need to run. If you need a laptop for general use with a strong emphasis on portability and quiet operation, the MacBook Air may suit you well, but if you desire more connectivity options and the potential to upgrade hardware, the Dell Latitude is a strong contender. The Apple MacBook Air (2020) is good for engineering and design, while the Dell Latitude 5430 is only fair.
The Apple MacBook Air (2020) excels in engineering and design use primarily because of its higher-resolution display and superior graphics provided by the Apple M1 chip, which makes it more suitable for tasks requiring color accuracy and graphic performance. On the other hand, the Dell Latitude 5430, while providing fair performance with its Intel Iris Xe graphics, has a lower screen resolution and less impressive color coverage, which may not be as optimal for detail-oriented engineering and design work.

The Apple MacBook Air has a better screen than the Dell Latitude 5430 for general use, AI, engineering and design, software development, and content creation.
The MacBook Air is favored for general use and engineering due to its high-resolution display that delivers crisp text and images, alongside a panel that supports a wide range of colors, which is essential for accuracy in design work. However, its screen falls short for 3D applications, as it typically lacks the high refresh rates required for smooth rendering of fast-moving visuals. On the other hand, the Dell Latitude 5430 provides an adequate display for daily tasks and engineering, but it may not reach the color accuracy professionals need, while its screen isn't ideal for gaming or 3D due to limited refresh rates.

How the Apple MacBook Air (2020) and the Dell Latitude 5430 compare to other laptops
"The Apple MacBook Air M2 Entry is a very good, but too expensive daily MacBook. The new MacBook Air M2 is undoubtedly once again a very good mobile companion, but we are still a little bit disappointed on a very high level, which is definitely connected with the increased price point. The new chassis is extremely slim and the front edge is no problem during typing, but the bezels are pretty wide for a modern device and in addition with the vertical space required for the notch, the new Air has larger footprint than some Windows rivals."
