The Acer Swift X is lighter and has a longer battery life, making it more suitable for travel and longer work sessions away from power outlets. On the other hand, the ASUS ROG Strix G17 provides superior performance for 3D rendering, engineering, and intensive gaming owing to its more powerful processor and graphics card. It also offers a larger, higher resolution screen with a faster refresh rate which is better for gaming and multimedia tasks. Although it's heavier and has a shorter battery life, which makes it less portable, if performance is a priority - especially for gaming and demanding applications - the ASUS would be the better choice. The ASUS ROG Strix G17 and Acer Swift X (2021) are both good for general use, though the ASUS ROG Strix G17 is somewhat better.
The Acer Swift X offers balance with moderate performance for general tasks, suitable display properties and longer battery life, in a lighter and thinner form factor making it highly portable. Conversely, the ASUS ROG Strix G17 provides higher performance capabilities with a more powerful processor and additional RAM, alongside superior screen quality due to a higher resolution and size, but this comes with reduced portability and a considerably shorter battery life.

The ASUS ROG Strix G17 is very good for gaming and AI, while the Acer Swift X (2021) is only fair.
The ASUS ROG Strix G17 offers superior gaming and 3D capabilities mainly due to a more powerful Nvidia RTX 4060 GPU and a much higher screen refresh rate, which provide smoother visuals and better rendering of fast-paced scenes. In contrast, while the Acer Swift X does have a capable Nvidia RTX 3050 GPU for fair gaming performance, its lower screen refresh rate makes it less optimal for demanding gaming and 3D tasks.

The ASUS ROG Strix G17 is very good for engineering and design, while the Acer Swift X (2021) is good.
The ASUS ROG Strix G17 offers superior engineering and design capabilities due to its more powerful CPU, double the RAM, and a more advanced GPU compared to the Acer Swift X, as well as a higher resolution and larger screen which enhances visual detail and workspace. While the Acer Swift X is more portable and quieter in operation, the ASUS is less portable and generates more operational noise, trade-offs that are justified by its significantly better screen quality and performance suitable for more demanding engineering tasks.

The ASUS ROG Strix G17 has a better screen than the Acer Swift X for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, content creation, and software development.
If you prioritize everyday tasks, both the Acer Swift X and ASUS ROG Strix G17 offer screens with clear visuals and suitable brightness, but for engineering and design work, where accurate color representation is crucial, both laptops excel with wide color coverage. However, for gaming and 3D applications where smooth motion is key, the lower refresh rates of these laptops might disappoint, despite their decent resolution and panel technology.

How the Acer Swift X (2021) and the ASUS ROG Strix G17 compare to other laptops
"The Swift X is an Acer for entry-level gaming. With the entry-level graphics chip, our Acer not only beats every single current AMD and Intel iGPU, but also Intel's dGPU Iris Xe Max. However, despite being a GDDR6 version, the GTX does not match the expectations set by its own counterparts from our database. This may be a result of the single fan, which only produces moderate noise levels under load. The performance level of the thin and light 1.4 kg (~3.09 lbs) 14-inch laptop is impressive nonetheless."
"The Asus ROG Strix G17 is an attractive but unbalanced gaming laptop. Its potent AMD Ryzen 9 processor excels in 1080p gaming, but playing at 1440p leaves the middling GeForce RTX 4060 GPU shouldering most of the burden. The display is exceptionally colorful, which is handy for content creators, but since this is a gaming laptop it would be better served with improved HDR capabilities. If battery life isn't a priority, the Strix G17 could serve as a designer by day and a gamer by night."
