If you prioritize gaming or engineering software, consider the Acer Nitro 5 with its powerful dedicated graphics and larger memory, albeit it's heavier and has a shorter battery life compared to the MacBook Air. On the other hand, the MacBook Air is more portable, offers a high-resolution display, and a significantly longer battery life, ideal for general use and media consumption, though it might not be as well-suited for the most demanding applications. The Apple MacBook Air has a better screen than the Acer Nitro 5 15 for general use, engineering and design, content creation, and software development.
For general use, the Acer Nitro 5 15's screen offers decent color and clarity, but compared to the MacBook Air, it may fall short in resolution and brightness, which are key for sharpness and visibility in various lighting conditions. When it comes to engineering and design, the MacBook Air excels with a wider color range, including DCI-P3 and Adobe RGB, allowing for more accurate color reproduction, whereas the Acer's limited color gamut can be a drawback for color-sensitive work. The refresh rate, vital for smooth rendering in 3D applications, is typically higher on gaming-focused laptops like the Acer Nitro 5 15, but even so, it might not be sufficient for demanding 3D tasks, which the MacBook Air also isn't cut out for due to its typically lower refresh rate despite its superior resolution and panel quality.

How the Acer Nitro 5 15 and the Apple MacBook Air (2022) compare to other laptops
"The Acer Nitro 5 is a fast QHD gaming notebook. The Nitro 5 is a well-balanced gaming laptop for just under US$ 2400. A Core i7-12700H CPU and a GeForce RTX 3070 Ti Laptop GPU enable QHD gaming at high to maximum settings, accompanied by fast PCIe-4-SSD (1 TB) and 16 GB of RAM. Acer delivers a solid QHD gaming notebook with the Nitro 5 AN515-58. However, the laptop is not completely free of shortcomings. The CPU and GPU can work at consistently high clock rates. The laptop heats up noticeably under load, but not excessively. Noise development is on the usual class level. Once again, however, Acer needs to improve the fan control."
"The Apple MacBook Air M2 Entry is a very good, but too expensive daily MacBook. The new MacBook Air M2 is undoubtedly once again a very good mobile companion, but we are still a little bit disappointed on a very high level, which is definitely connected with the increased price point. The new chassis is extremely slim and the front edge is no problem during typing, but the bezels are pretty wide for a modern device and in addition with the vertical space required for the notch, the new Air has larger footprint than some Windows rivals."
